Black Star Beauty Supply is open for Business

After a decade of successes, local entrepreneur launches beauty supply retail shop to meet growing demand for professional hair care products in Dyersburg.

DYERSBURG, Tenn. (January 7, 2015) - Thaddeus Medford is extremely passionate about his work. He has been cutting hair in Dyersburg since 2006 as the owner and operator of Mr. Kutz Barbershop on Hornbrook Street. For nine years, more than twenty clients a day have passed through his chair. It was through these relationships, and the conversations they brought, that the vision for Black Star Beauty Supply began to form.

As more clients asked Medford for advice on their hair care he knew there was need in the local market. As he saw it, no other retailer provided both the personal interaction and expertise that many people need when purchasing hair care products. As a self-starting businessman with experience in the community and industry, he knew he could successfully fill this need and expand into beauty supply retail.

"Cutting hair started as a thing I liked to do in high school. Just as something to do. Then, I realized I really liked it and the personal trust that's being established between you and a client. Over the years, my wife and I have enjoyed being involved in this community, and see Black Star Beauty Supply as a way to stay involved and help this community grow," said Medford. "We've built Black Star Beauty Supply on the promise of providing products not currently available in town, and giving customers one-on-one attention with professional advice to ensure they purchase the right hair care products for their needs."

Specialty beauty supply stores are more prevalent in larger markets, like Memphis, but typically aren't found in many smaller communities. With a growing, diverse population Medford believes that Dyersburg can support a store like Black Star Beauty Supply. Because of this demand, they will be able to offer the same selection as stores in larger markets at competitive prices - with the added bonus of unmatched customer service.

Medford's realized dream of owning and operating his own beauty supply store is made possible in part from support of Pathway Lending, a Tennessee community lender, who provided the initial financing to open the store and business counseling services to help make this plan a reality. To celebrate this accomplishment, Medford invites all to the Grand Opening on Wednesday January 14th. A special ribbon cutting ceremony presented by the Chamber of Commerce will take place at 10AM.

DRMC adds Breakthrough MR Scanner
to Boost Image Clarity, Exam Speed, and
Patient Comfort

Dyersburg, TN-Dyersburg Regional Medical Center today announced that patients and physicians now have access to the first-ever digital broadband magnetic resonance imaging system: the Ingenia 1.5T from Philips Healthcare.

This revolutionary machine is designed to quickly perform high-quality MR scans with a high level of patient comfort. Ingenia 1.5T can significantly reduce exam time and has a wide opening to accommodate patients of varying size, age, and physical condition. This makes Ingenia less confining than 60 cm MR systems and a more attractive noninvasive imaging option for patients at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. In fact, most scans can be performed with the patient's head out of the opening, creating a better patient experience.

The Ingenia 1.5T incorporates a number of breakthrough technologies designed to deliver exceptional image clarity. It quickly provides radiologists and physicians with precise, detailed MR images needed to help confidently diagnose many different anatomical and structural problems in the body-including brain and nervous system disorders, cardiovascular disease, and organ disease.

"Ingenia 1.5T image quality is excellent and it's fast. We can perform American College of Radiology recommended routine exams of the brain, spine, knee, ankle, and liver in much shorter time than previously, with superb image quality. It gives our radiologists and referring physicians access to the high-quality images they need to make informed diagnoses. With Ingenia 1.5T, our patients experience fast, comfortable exams and fewer re-scans. Ingenia 1.5T is a win-win for our clinicians and our patients," said Mike Viar, Radiology Director at DRMC.
