A school-wide living rosary was held on October 30 in the stadium sponsored by Campus Ministry.
Campus Minister Christina Lasserre said that every year they host a living rosary but after talking, campus ministry really wanted to make it a school-wide event. "It was beautiful," said Lasserre, "Students showed incredible reverence, and it was so nice to see the entire school come together in prayer."

Mats for Homeless

Students are pictured making mats out of recycled shopping bags for the homeless in Sarah Johnson's FACS class in October. Shelby Ellis '16 brought the idea to life when she came home for fall break. "The mats can easily be washed since they are plastic and are easy to roll up and carry," said Ellis. She said that the mats are made by cutting the bags into loops and stringing the loops together in a long chain. When the chain is rolled into a ball, it makes plarn (plastic yarn) and then the plarn is crocheted into a mat.

Ellis said that the mats give homeless men and women a clean bed to lie on instead of the ground, especially as the weather gets colder. "There are many homeless people in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Houma that could use a gift or a kind conversation and this is the perfect way to do it," she said.

Teacher Highlight

Chris Bergeron, a 1998 graduate of Terrebonne High, is in his 14th year at E. D. White. Bergeron currently teaches health and physical education and serves as head football coach and head of the strength and conditioning program.

He received his four-year degree in health and physical education from Nicholls State in 2002.

While attending Nicholls State, Bergeron returned to Terrebonne to coach football and with the strength program, which gave him full affirmation that he wanted to pursue a career that allowed him to help form students into successful and well-rounded individuals.

Before arriving at E. D. White, Bergeron spent three years at Terrebonne followed by one year at H. L. Bourgeois. He said, "When the opportunity presented itself to teach and coach at E. D. White, I knew I wanted to be a part of the E. D. White family. I've made so many special memories here, and I've met and worked with some outstanding people that have mentored me through the years. "

Bergeron is thankful and honored to have the opportunity to work in a profession that allows him to share his passion for helping others. "If I touch one student's life like my teachers and coaches have touched mine, I know that I am doing my job. The most rewarding part of the profession is knowing that I am making a positive impact on our young people. This is the ultimate goal as a teacher and coach," he stated.
