Eve (Paregentan) of the Feast of Transfiguration
This is the Sunday preceding the week prior to the fasting period preceding the Feast of Our Lord Jesus Christ's Transfiguration called in the Armenian Apostolic Church Fast of Transfiguration lasting from Monday to Friday. Saturday, the last day of the fasting period, is the eve of the feast, which means that that day people can eat fish and dairy products.

Commemoration of the Tabernacle of Old Testament (or the Old Ark) and the Feast of the Holy Church
Tabernacle of the Old Testament is the most sacred sanctity of the Old Testament, where the board of the Ten Commandments, Aaron's ornament crosier and the golden urn full of manna were kept. Christian Church is considered to be the prototype of the New Testament - that is - the Church of Christ. So, this feast has been included in the calendar to symbolize the mystery of eternity of the Church.

CULTURAL COMMITTEE OF ST. JAMES ARMENIAN CHURCH
Invites You to the Book Presentation and Signing Series
This Sunday, June 30, 2013 by
David LuhrssenAuthor of "Mamoulian: Life on Stage and Screen" Following Divine Liturgy - 12:30 PM
An Armenian national raised in Russia, Rouben Mamoulian (1897--1987) studied in the influential Stanislavski studio, renowned as the source of the "method" acting technique. Shortly after immigrating to New York in 1926, he created a sensation with an all-black production of Porgy (1927). He then went on to direct the debut Broadway productions of three of the most popular shows in the history of American musical theater: Porgy and Bess (1935), Oklahoma! (1943), and Carousel (1945). Mamoulian began working in film just as the sound revolution was dramatically changing the technical capabilities of the medium, and he quickly established himself as an innovator. Not only did many of his unusual camera techniques become standard, but he also invented a device that eliminated the background noises created by cameras and dollies. Seen as a rebel earlier in his career, Mamoulian gradually gained respect in Hollywood, and the Directors Guild of America awarded him the prestigious D. W. Griffith Award for Lifetime Achievement in 1983.

A New iBook on the Transfiguration
The Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Church of America is pleased to announce the release of its latest electronic book for the Apple iPad: "Transfiguration." We invite you to download this free book, and to embark on a journey through the story of Christ's miraculous transformation on Mt. Tabor.
The book relates the Gospel story of the Transfiguration and introduces the ways in which the feast is celebrated in the Armenian Church (this year, the observance will take place on Sunday, July 7). The digital book is packed with interactive features, including:
- Video: watch the story come alive on your screen
- Music: listen to the hymns of the Transfiguration in a virtual sanctuary
- Audio: listen to the Transfiguration story in English and Armenian
- Photo galleries: explore artists' renderings of the events on Mt. Tabor
- A "Lexicon" page: learn Armenian words and names associated with this feast day
"Transfiguration" is the first in a series of interactive books the Diocese plans to publish in the coming year as part of the Diocesan theme, "Living the Gospel of Christ." The series will walk readers through the five major feasts of the Armenian Church.
As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. Please take the time to rate our new publication and to write a review on the iBookstore.

Please sign up for a Coffee Hour
Coffee hour tables can be simple or complex. Sometimes when people do a coffee hour table they put out coffee cakes and doughnuts; sometimes they put out some fruits. Others put out entire lunch. We encourage you to sign up for coffee hour a couple of times each year. It can be simple or an entire meal - either is fine. The sign-up sheet is in the church hall.
