2015 Summer, #1
Nurture spirituality. Foster compassion. Engage in service
From the Minister

I have found, for better or worse, for whatever the reason, that my interest in sports has been slowly declining over the years. LoraKim has less interest than I. One exception in our house, though, is women's soccer. When the thrill of competition combines with a world-wide connection (it's what the rest of the world calls football, and it's the world's game), and with celebration of the grit, grace, skill, and power of women in a world that so widely devalues and exploits women, it's suddenly easy to find inspiration in sports again. Every four years, while the Women's World Cup is going on, we turn into fanatics.

LoraKim and I are leaving on Tue Jun 23 to attend General Assembly, which is in Portland, OR this year. After that, we plan to go up the coast to Seattle to visit with LoraKim's sister for a few days. Come Sun Jul 5, we'll go a little further north to Vancouver. The final game of the Women's World Cup 2015 is being played there, and we've got tickets.

May all our summers afford some excitement -- and also some rest. I'll be back in the office the first week in August, and back in the pulpit Sun Aug 23. In the meantime, you won't want to miss the summer worship services we have planned.

Yours in the faith we share,
      Meredith

The Clearwater Festival is Jun 20-21 at Croton Point Part, Croton-on-Hudson. This year, there's a UU table, shared by the five Westchester UU congregations. If you're going, can you spare some time to help staff the UU table? That'd be great! If you can help out, please contact Janet Bear ([email protected]).

Sharing Sunday Offerings
June: Kiva
Each month we share 25% of our plate offerings with outside organizations in need. Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. The CUC 5th-6th grade class created a Kiva account and has lent $300 in ten different countries. As the loans are paid back, they will be able to re-lend the money.
See Rev. Garmon if you have an idea for a future monthly plate share.
