 January 8, 2018

It is January 8, 2018, and the Christmas season is now concluded! There were so many beautiful things that happened throughout this time, and I am thankful for them all.  The season was off to a wonderful start for my family as we watched Christian and all the other children who presented the wonderful musical under JaynĂ©'s able direction.  It was a wonderful evening and Christian's first play.  I thought the kids' singing was especially outstanding, but it was all excellent.  On Friday evening, December 8, I was invited to perform for the Bishop's Christmas banquet at the Marriott in Charleston.  It was an honor and pleasure to meet the cabinet, renew some friendships, and make some new ones.  For many weeks the choir and orchestra rehearsed for the December 10 cantata, and it was amazing to see how it came together in the end. I felt it really had that indescribable "Christmas feel" and am glad I could contribute to it.  Some musicians that participated had not played for 10+ and even 20+ years!  After two cantata presentations I was off to accompany a community choir presentation of "Messiah." Of course the traditional Christmas Eve services were beautiful and well-attended. On December 29, Donna and I hosted a house concert/party for choir and orchestra members and thoroughly enjoyed the time together with our musical family and their spouses.
Now on to new challenges in 2018.  I hope to continue to unlock the secrets still waiting to be found in the Harrrah Symphonic Organ. What an awesome and wonderful creation it is.  Please keep it's designer, Allen Harrah, in your prayers as he moves on after great health concerns.  I have composed about fifteen new solo piano pieces and hope to record them this year.  Please keep me in your prayers as I work to provide quality musical accompaniment and offerings for worship at Forrest Burdette.

Construction Update
Things are moving along with the Byrd Hall renovation and kitchen. The staircase is complete in Byrd Hall, and they are working with some of the kitchen demolition which is requiring extreme support for walls. Progress is slow visibly, but everything seems to be moving well. With the cold weather the demolition of Byrd Hall is slightly delayed.
