ProjectSHARE August Collection -
Commonwealth High School

Commonwealth is a tuition-free public high school serving at-risk students ages 16-21 who need a non-traditional learning environment with flexible scheduling options. During August,
we'll collect items the school can use to help give their students the foundation to succeed. Items can be dropped off at the Information Desk in the main lobby any Sunday in August. See our
ProjectSHARE page for a list of items we're collecting.

Pastors' Reading Club
Tuesday, August 1 | 7-8:30 PM
Our next Reading Club discussion will be held August 1 in the Community Life Center chapel and will be led by Mark Davis, CDS head of school. We will be discussing the book Good Faith: Being a Christian When Society Thinks You're Irrelevent and Extreme by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons. Readers will discover the most significant trends that offer both obstacles and opportunities to God's people, and how not only to challenge culture but to create and renew it for the common good.

Summer Weekly Events

Youth Summer Events
Regular youth Link and EPIC will resume August 30 - but in the meantime, we are doing a ton of fun things over the summer! Our youth (rising 6th through graduated 12th graders) are invited to our weekly events in the CLC Youth Center: joint Sunday Bible school (9-10:30 AM), MS Bible Study (Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 PM), HS Summer Wednesday Nights (Wednesdays from 7-9 PM). Stay tuned for information about our MS Water War (Monday, August 7) and the HS Guys Night Out (TBD).

GET INVOLVED

Help Build a Habitat House!
Join us as we assist in building a Habitat House for the Kingombe family in the Crestdale community in Matthews! Christ Covenant Church will help build on Saturdays: August 5 (8 volunteers needed), September 16 (6 volunteers needed), and October 21 (3 volunteers needed). No construction background is necessary, but builders must be at least 17 years old (or 16, accompanied by a parent). On August 5 and October 21 we need to provide 25 bag lunches for the site volunteers. Children are welcome to help prepare these meals! See the insert in this Sunday's worship folder for more information.

If you are interested in serving or having your group serve on any of these dates, please contact Karen Chambers. We will be building an on-going relationship with the family and will have additional opportunities to serve them once they have moved in.

Yarn Lovers Ministry
We have two gatherings each month (the 3rd Monday at 7 PM and the 3rd Wednesday at 10 AM) to knit or crochet items such as prayer shawls, baby items (blankets, booties, caps), dishcloths, and market bags.

Yarn Needed: Yarn is always needed to help with our projects. If you would like to donate yarn (any kind except wool), please bring the yarn to the Information Desk on Sundays or to Mary Jo Culver during the week.

Missionaries
of the Week:
Sunday, July 30

Michael & Anna Whitham
(RUF, Charlotte NC)

Michael is the campus minister at Johnson & Wales.

Pray for their adjustment to a family of four with the birth of their new daughter. Pray that they would be effective evangelists of the gospel on a campus where most don't know the Lord. Pray for them as they invite students to join in student leadership.
