MAYOR'S MESSAGE

It's been a busy couple of weeks since our most recent E-Newsletter.  In addition to countless people making the most of the final days of summer, during the past two weeks we also enjoyed a sizable amount of good publicity and other notable events that are definitely worth mentioning. For example, on August 18 members of the Crescenz family stopped by City Hall to view the miniature stature (aka: "Modello") of their brother, Michael, that's now on display on the third floor, where many people will see it on their way to Court, City Council meetings and other civic gatherings. Michael, a corporal in the U.S. Army who was killed in action while heroically battling heavily-entrenched forces from the North Vietnamese Army, was the only Philadelphian who received the Medal of Honor  <<READ MORE>>

CITY COUNCIL'S MESSAGE

During the August 29 City Council meeting, Business Administrator George Savastano reported that the South Jersey Gas Company will soon begin the first phase of a gas line improvement project in Sea Isle City. Phase One of this project, which will include Pleasure Avenue from 69th to 79th Street as well as Landis Avenue to Pleasure Avenue from 69th to 79th Street, will begin after September 17 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. The overall project (the schedule of which has not yet been determined) will ultimately result in the replacement of all gas lines in Sea Isle's south-end. FLOOD MITIGATION GRANT

Want To Elevate Your
Repetitive Loss Home?


Cape May County and the municipalities of Ocean City, Sea Isle City, North Wildwood, West Wildwood, the City of Cape May, Upper Township, Stone Harbor and Egg Harbor Township are coordinating an effort to develop a FEMA Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) grant application to elevate severe repetitive loss structures. The FMA program provides 100-percent funding of eligible costs for severe repetitive loss/repetitive loss (SRL/RL) elevation projects. << READ FULL DOCUMENT>>

LIFEGUARDS AFTER LABOR DAY

There Will Be Limited Lifeguard
Coverage After September 4


The Sea Isle City Beach Patrol will have the following lifeguard stands operational after Labor Day on the dates and beaches noted below...
 
September 5 to 8:   40th, 45th, and 59th Streets (these stands are located in such a manner that guards may be quickly picked-up and transported to perform a rescue anywhere on the island.

September 9 - 10:
34th, 40th, 59th, 64th, 75th, 81st & 86th Streets
                                                                                          
September 16 - 17: 40th, 59th, 64th, 75th & 86th Streets
                                                                                          
September 23 - 24: 40th, 59th, 64th & 86th Streets
 
PLEASE NOTE : There may be an unexpected need to close a stand (ex; if lifeguards call out sick). To confirm which beaches will have lifeguards on duty, beachgoers can phone the SICBP at 263-3655.
 
SURF WARNING FLAGS

Look For Colored Flags
on Lifeguard Stands


In an effort to keep beach-goers well-informed of surf conditions, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol has instituted a new system using colored flags mounted at each Lifeguard Stand. The color of the flag will indicate current surf conditions...
 
Green :  Low Hazard - Calm Conditions, Exercise Caution.

Yellow
: Medium Hazard - Moderate Surf and/or Currents.

Red
: High Hazard - High Surf and/or Strong Currents.

FREE YOGA ON LABOR DAY

Annual "Pose For Peace" Yoga Class on JFK Beach

On Monday, September 4 (Labor Day), NJ Beach Yoga will hold their 5th annual "Pose for Peace" yoga class at 7:30 a.m. on the JFK Boulevard Beach. During this free class, donations will be accepted from participants for the National Epilepsy Foundation. "The class will form the shape of a Peace Sign as a symbol of sending collective waves of Peace to our world," says instructor Teri O'Connor. HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL DAY

Rid Your Home of Unwanted Hazardous Materials on September 9

The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority will host a Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, September 9, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the CMCMUA Landfill, located at 2050 Route #610 in Woodbine. Mayor Desiderio will lead Sea Isle City's 2017 Patriot Day Ceremony at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, September 11, at Veterans Park, JFK Boulevard and Landis Avenue. During the annual 9-11 gathering, the Mayor and other community leaders will honor the many lives lost during the 2001 Terrorist Attacks. All are welcome to attend. The Sea Isle City Environmental Commission is now accepting nominations for their 30th Annual Beautification Awards. Local businesses and homes that have shown improvement in their overall appearance or have maintained an eye-catching appearance will be considered for this yearly honor. Residents and visitors alike are encouraged to nominate a property they feel should be considered for a 2017 Beautification Award. Property owners can even nominate their own homes or businesses. FALL FAMILY FESTIVAL

Don't Miss The Fun  
on September 16 & 17
 
This year's Fall Family Festival takes place on Saturday & Sunday, September 16 & 17. Saturday's events include a huge seaside market along the Promenade, a Food Court, free amusement rides and other activities for the kids, and live music. On Saturday night, bring your family to the Fall Festival Dance Party at Excursion Park, where kids can enjoy the amusement rides for a small fee. Jitney service will be available on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. - and there will be free parking all weekend! On Sunday, don't miss the festival's Antique Auto Show & Parade, free Guided Historical Trolley Tours and more live music. SUMMER POETRY READINGS

The 2017 Beach Bards Poetry & Prose Reading Series will host their final event of the season on September 18 inside the Sea Isle City Library, located at 4800 Central Avenue, from 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. The Beach Bards Poetry & Prose Reading Series is a free event sponsored by the Cape May County Library.

HOCKEY LEAGUE REGISTRATION

Roller & Street Hockey League

Registration for the Cape May County Hockey League takes place now through September 15. Teams consist of: Grades 2 to 4 (Street Hockey), Grades 5 to 8 (Street Hockey), and High School (Roller Hockey). Teams are limited to 15 players. Don't Stand Out In The Rain

Anyone can register for event cancellation text messages by texting "sicalert" to "84483" on your smart phone. You can also sign-up for event cancellation text messages and email alerts by going to the City's Visitors Website,
www.VISITSICNJ.com, and clicking the "Rained Out" link on the home page. Once signed-up, you will receive alerts whenever a local concert, festival or other outdoor City event has been cancelled, postponed or re-scheduled.

City Wide Flooding Study

A major priority of the Sea Isle City government is addressing the flooding which impacts our City and is most prevalent in low lying areas. Over the past several years, the City has implemented several drainage improvement projects to replace deteriorated storm drainage systems and tidal check valves; and we're coordinating with the county engineer's office on several projects, as much of our drainage system falls under county jurisdiction. << READ MORE>>
