We have all heard the popular expression, There is no "i" in "team." Well, there is no "i" in "Gates" either.

That's my way of saying we emphasize the team approach here at Gates Healthcare. Our firm may carry my name, but our collection of talented staff and expert associates certainly carries the day when it comes to supporting our valued clients.

I'm proud of their work, which really shone in the Florida sun last month during the Educational Conference. Please scroll down to see what we (not I!) were up to.

And best wishes this spring.

Sincerely,
Ernest P. Gates Jr., RPh, FASCP, FIACP, FACA
Recap of Educational Conference
Gates Healthcare played an integral part in the IACP/ACA/ACVP Educational Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in February. The theme of the gathering centered on the increasing regulatory requirements for compounders at both the state and federal levels.

Gates Healthcare senior associates were among the presenters helping pharmacists navigate our brave new world of oversight:

Ken Latta, RPh, BS Pharm, FACA, FIACP, presented a session on "Cleaning and Disinfecting the Clean Room." He gave participants many practical tips and shared his many years of expertise on this complex yet crucial subject.

Ken Speidel, RPh, PharmD, FIACP, FACA, presented a session on "Keeping Custom in Compounding," reminding participants that compounding has always been about meeting the individual needs of patients. And he offered conferees great ideas on how to do that.

Bill Mixon, RPh, MS, FIACP, MS, Senior Associate, provided an insightful update on the FDA's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee, a panel on which he serves.

Cabaleiro Published in Pharmacy Journal
Gates Healthcare Senior Associate Joe Cabaleiro, RPh, FACA, has published an article in the International Journal of Pharmaceutical Compounding about a case that is of interest to compounders everywhere.

The article in the March/April 2015 issue reviews lapses in compliance with USP standards and pharmacy law alleged in the indictments related to the New England Compounding Center fungal meningitis outbreak.

Cabaleiro is a nationally recognized expert in sterile and non-sterile compounding and pharmacy quality and management. His analysis in the IJPC article is intended to help compounders assess compliance at their own facility and, if necessary, take steps to implement best practices.
