This week Madre Filomena and I have issued a joint statement of support for the young people effected by the DACA decision earlier this week. As the Hispanic community continues to suffer assaults, we are reminded of the importance of our relationship with the members of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Our ability to minister in the City of Poughkeepsie is greatly enhanced by our ongoing partnership with this community of faith. Please keep our brothers and sisters in your prayers during this difficult time.
We write to express our solidarity with the Dreamers, those young men and women who were brought to the United States without documents as children and who iden
tify as Americans. Our country has always benefitted from the diversity and determination that new immigrants have brought to our shores. We honor those young people who have committed themselves to our nation and we, in turn, commit ourselves to their future. We find the effort to undermine their security as American citizens unconscionable and we stand ready to defend their right to continue to live peaceably in our land.
May God Bless our Country,
The Rev. Susan Fortunato, Christ Church, Poughkeepsie
The Rev. Filomena Servelon, Our Lady of Guadalupe
