Vehicle Stickers
Congratulations to Kaitlyn Czarnecki on winning the Village's Vehicle Sticker Design Contest! You can see her artwork here.  Kaitlyn's
sticker will be used for two years due to recent changes in the Vehicle Sticker Code.
Beginning May 1, 2017, all newly purchased vehicle stickers will be valid for two (2) years. Due to this change, the fee schedule for most vehicle types will double from current rates; however, with the extension of the sticker term to two years, the cost per year will remain the same. To learn more about the upcoming changes for vehicle stickers use this Link.

Village Board Meeting Location Moved!

Village meetings will now be held at Fire Station 28 (365 Kuhn Rd.) due to the scheduled demolition and renovation of the Municipal Center beginning this May. All future Board, Plan Commission, Red Light, Administrative Tow Hearings, and other meetings as required will be held at Station 28 (Pictured Below) until further notice.  The one exception is the February 27th Plan Commission meeting which will be held at the Village Hall as scheduled.
It is estimated that Municipal Center staff will begin moving to a temporary location between April 15th and April 30th. Once staff relocates to 505 E North Ave, the 500 North Gary Ave address will be closed for all business until the new Municipal Center opens in 2018.

Building Permits

This is the time of year when many homeowners begin planning for home or property improvement projects. Many common projects require a Village building permit, so please be sure to check with the Community Development Department if you have any questions. Below is a partial list of common projects that require a permit:

One of the main purposes of Building Codes is to provide minimum standards to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design,
construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings, structures and certain equipment within the Village. The building permit requirement is intended to ensure that the improvement will be designed and built in accordance with the prevailing codes. The Village maintains a record of all permits issued to a particular property. It is not uncommon for the prospective purchaser of a residential property to contact the Village to inquire if proper building permits were obtained.

Building permit applications and helpful handouts for common improvement projects are available in the Village Hall lobby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The handouts (only) are also available on the Village website.

Work done without a required permit is subject to increased fees and possible fines. Once a building permit has been issued it should be clearly posted in the front window or on the entrance door of the home.

Please contact Community Development at (630) 871-6230 or [email protected] if you are not sure whether your project requires a permit, or if you have questions about building or zoning code requirements, permit fees or the permit process in general.
