Holiday Hours
The Village Hall and Public Works Center will be closed Dec 25th and re-open Dec 27th in observance of the Christmas holiday. They will also be closed Jan 1st in observance of New Year's Day.
As always, the Police Department will remain staffed 24/7. If you have an emergency call 911.

No Electronics at Curb
On January 1, 2012, Illinois Banned Electronics or e-waste from being landfilled. The goal is to prevent metals contamination of ground water resources around Illinois landfills. Residents are reminded that placing their unwanted electronics at curbside for refuse collection is against the law and may be subject to ticketing.  For more recycling options from the County, click on this link.

Keep the Wreath Red!
The Carol Stream Fire District urges us to help 'Keep the Wreath Red' throughout the festive season. A holiday wreath illuminated with red bulbs is displayed in front of each Fire Station in Carol Stream thru New Years Day.  Should a fire occur during this time involving holiday decorations, one of the red bulbs will be changed to white to serve as a reminder of the fire safety precautions that need to be followed this time of year. For information on holiday fire safety, click on this link.

This edition includes information about news,  events, and activities in and around the Carol Stream commun ity . The Village Hall reconstruction continues approximately on schedule. Crews have begun cold proofing the site. Once the project is under roof, crews will be able to do interior work through the winter.

Christmas Sharing Thank You

The 41st annual Carol Stream Christmas Sharing program served 209 families and provided toys to 443 children. Our elves wrapped 1,574 toys and distributed just under 6 tons of food. This Village program is the result of a community-wide effort uniting businesses, schools, service organizations, St. Luke's parish, the Carol Stream Park District, Carol Stream Library, Carol Stream Fire Protection District, Joe Cotton Ford, Toys for Tots and our partner, Lutheran Church of the Master. Without the help of these organizations and countless volunteers, this program would not be possible! Thanks to all for making the holidays brighter for our recipients.

Have a Green Holiday!

During the holidays the average American throws away 25% more stuff than usual and many of those items could be disposed of in a more environmentally friendly way. Our friends from SCARCE put together this helpful blog that highlights tricks you can use to be more environmentally friendly this Holiday Season.  It is important to recycle properly, adding in items in the hope that they can be recycled ("wishcycling") can contribute to big costs for recyclers and can even damage the equipment. So if you like to recycle, let's work together to do it right.

Also don't forget you can recycle your holiday lights with the Village!  Electronics recycling firm,  Elgin Recycling Solutions , with the Village, Park District and Public Library is sponsoring a holiday light recycling program lasting through Friday, Jan. 26th. Residents and businesses that find broken light strands this holiday season can deposit them in recycling collection barrels in the lobbies of any of the locations below during business  hours :

Temporary Village Hall
505 E. North Ave.
C.S. Public Library
616 Hiawatha Dr.
Simkus Rec. Center
