June 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the murder of Vincent Chin, a young Chinese-American man from Detroit who was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by two men. His killers never served a single day in jail. Asian Americans consider the Vincent Chin case and its aftermath as the genesis of the Asian American civil rights movement.

a4, the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), and the Museum of Chinese in America (MoCA) have joined forces to present "Revisiting Vincent," a Vincent Chin trial re-enactment with a cast of professional actors. Testimony from the actual trial transcripts will be woven in with footage from the Academy Award-nominated documentary "Who Killed Vincent Chin?" The Hon. Denny Chin and Dean Frank Wu, whose Vincent Chin trial re-enactment script inspired this production, will introduce the performance and participate in the talkback afterwards. The performance is directed by a4's own staff members and theater artists, Soriya Chum and Elena Chang.

Birthday Card Campaign for Private Danny Chen

 Danny Chen

The Organization of Chinese in America - New York (OCA-NY) is holding a birthday card campaign to support the cause of Private Danny Chen, a 19-year-old Chinese American soldier whose life was cut short following weeks of constant mistreatment and discrimination by his superiors while stationed in Afghanistan.

Private Danny Chen would have turned 20 on May 26th, 2012. OCA-NY invites the community to create birthday cards for him, which will be collected and delivered to Members of the Senate and House Armed Services Committees in DC. They ask that the messages in the cards reflect their continued fight for justice in his case and reiterate their demand that the court-martial held for the eight individuals charged in connection with his death take place on U.S. soil. OCA-NY will be collecting cards until May 14, 2012.
