Since 2001, Comcast has provided $2.2 billion in cash and in-kind support to national and local non-profit organizations across the country. Comcast works with non-profits to create successful programs that improve the quality of life, focusing on digital literacy, education, youth leadership, and volunteers. Comcast is a national partner of the Asian American Justice Center and has consistently supported key API efforts like the Asian Heritage Street Festival and the Hep B Free campaign. Last year, Comcast executed a landmark agreement with the Asian Pacific Islander community that will pave new ground for APIs in media and communication. The agreement includes: expanding the distribution of Asian American owned, operated and targeted programming, launching a new API focused video-on-demand offering as part of its standard digital package available to 18 million subscribers, and dedication of a $1 million to build a bigger pipeline for Asian American-themed programming. So far, Comcast has established a groundbreaking senior-level member of its external affairs and the public policy staff to serve as a community liaison. In addition, Comcast has appointed nine members to its new Asian American Advisory Council.

Community Partner Profile: Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center
Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center (APIWC) is an organization based in San Francisco's Tenderloin district that focuses on providing education, conducting research, policy-making, and health services in the local, national, and international levels. Their mission is to educate, support, empower and advocate for the API community, especially individuals with or at risk for HIV/AIDS. Started in 1987 to call to the attention of the HIV/AIDS crisis happening in Asian & Pacific Islander communities, APIWC now aims to inform, advocate, and provide health care services for those in need.
As the oldest North American nonprofit focusing on sexual health and HIV/AIDS services in the API communities, APIWC provides health care through its Wellness Clinic, and HIV/ Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C testing through its testing clinic, both free of charge for low income, uninsured, or underinsured San Franciscans of all sexual orientations, genders, marital status, and mental/physical abilities who have no access to health care. These services can also be provided with culturally-sensitive attention and care that is not usually found in other health care providers. Experts on their medical team are dedicated and committed professionals who are not financially compensated for their services. APIWC will be hosting free HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C tests during the Asian Heritage Street Celebration, so don't forget to drop by!

Volunteer Profile: Danielle Lane
Name: Danielle Lane
Occupation: Public Allies // Academic Program Coordinator (YMCA) Affiliations (organizations): Public Allies SF/SV // YMCA PG&E Teen Center Ethnicity: Multiracial Number of Years With AHSC: 1st year Chinese Zodiac Sign: Snake I began volunteering for the AHSC because: AHSC allowed Public Allies to host a children's area for API Heritage Service Day in 2011. To continue that tradition, we looked to AHSC for a second year, hoping to increase the connection between youth and their heritage by providing a variety of activities and informational booths. One thing I am looking forward to at this year's celebration is: Being a part of a rich culture and celebrate in their history and traditions while presenting activities that engage with youth and their families. And food - can never forget the food! My favorite Asian cultural tradition is: The "Wishing Tree" (thanks to Annie Banh, Public Allies, who taught us the origins and meanings behind it) Favorite Asian food: Lumpia, Spring Rolls, Dim Sum Favorite Asian Pacific American Celebrity: actress Michelle Yeoh I am embarrassed to admit that: I can't stand being more than 10 ft. off the ground. My Superhero power would be: Teleportation, that way I could be anywhere in seconds. If I could vacation with anyone, anywhere it would be: Greece or Guam
