Stewardship Liaison, Chris Erbe
Stewardship is about growing the church and our members. We do this by encouraging parishioners to "invest" their time, talent and treasure in St. Christopher's through a monetary pledge and through a contribution of their skills and talents toward the church's activities. In other words, we encourage parishioners to get involved in this place! Active involvement of many parishioners ensures the church will survive, thrive and continue to meet the spiritual needs of its members and do good works in the community. It's good for parishioners because they become part of a caring and supportive spiritual community.
As the stewardship liaison, I am part of the stewardship committee, which is composed of 5-10 members who, with Father Peter's guidance, initiate the annual giving campaign, ministries fair and other stewardship-related events. If you are interested in joining the Stewardship Committee, contact me or the committee chair, Helen Spence. We're always looking for ideas that will help encourage our parishioners to grow in God's community by investing their time, talent and treasure in St. Christopher's.
Thursday Eucharist/Morning Prayer Hiatus
Due to the summer schedules of our lay and ordained officiants, and with the agreement of those who regularly attend, there will be no Thursday Morning Eucharist or Morning Prayer beginning June 22 through Labor Day. When all return in the late summer, you will be invited to join us.
Join Us in Feeding the Homeless through FACETS
From Janet Bush, Senior Warden
St. Christopher's has just agreed to restart the feeding program we used to participate in years ago. We are on a rotation to provide dinner and a bag breakfast for about 50 people every 4th Thursday of even months. Our first dinner will be prepared on June 22, which is in 2 weeks.
There are a few things we need right away:
- A volunteer to pick up the van from FACETS on the meal days, and return it when we are finished. This will also involve registering as a driver and a brief training.
- Two or three people should be involved in the food delivery process. They may or may not also help with the meal prep.
- I need someone to scout around at the local bagel and bread places to see who can donate their day-old bread from Wednesday. Most places do this as a matter of course, and it just depends whether they are already promised to another group for that date. Usually we can pick these up at closing Wednesday evening.
- Please let me know if you would be interested in making cookies or brownies and bringing them already in individual ziploc bags.
- If someone would like to cook hardboiled eggs (about 100) and have them chilled ahead of time, that would be great. You can get them at COSTCO pretty inexpensively, or I can pick them up for you.
- If you can't help physically, but would like to contribute financially, you can send a check to St. Christopher's with "FACETS Hot Meals" on the memo line.
I will do the rest of the shopping and purchase the food and packaging supplies for the initial round. After that, we can divide up the responsibilities among the group. I will probably arrive at the church around 1 or 2 pm to get started cooking, so the soup will have time to cook through. We will assemble the bags to be handed out, ladle out the soup into styrofoam containers, pack everything into coolers and into the van to be delivered to 3 Fairfax locations. Then we will clean up the kitchen.
Please let me know if you are interested in assisting with any part of this mission. I look forward to hearing from you. You can email me at
email@example.com or phone me at 703-371-2465.
Women's Discussion Group Meeting, June 26 at 7PM
The St. Christopher's Ladies Monthly discussion Group will meet this month on 26 June at 7PM at the home of Tammy Farrar. All women of the church are welcome. We will have light refreshments and a time of reflection and planning for the coming months. Tammy's address is 6814 Grey Fox Drive, Springfield, VA. If you have any questions, please call Trish Taylor at 919-429-0344.
Missing Round Checkered Tablecloths
If you know where the 90" round, red and white checkered tablecloths have been placed that we did not use at the picnic, please contact Richard Sellers. They were new and used some months ago and were not in the kitchen pantry for use during the picnic. Thanks!
Springfield School Physicals coming on August 5, 2017. Mark the date on your calendar and stay tuned for more information on ways to volunteer and help.
Occasionally our preschool outreach has some special news, a teacher to introduce, or other tidbit to share. Fr. Peter encourages you to watch this space in future issues of the E-pistle for those times when such news comes forth!
