HOLY WEEK EVENTS & SERVICES

MAUNDY THURSDAY - APR., 17 - 6:30 PM - GRACE COMMONS

Maundy Thursday is when we remember our Lord's Last Supper.  Join us for the traditional dinner of Lamb Stew in Grace Commons.  Please bring a salad or bread to share.  A love offering will be collected for the cost of the Lamb Stew.  Following dinner, we will move into the Sanctuary (around 7:15) for a special service of Holy Communion.  Childcare (0-5 years) is available during the service.  Sign-ups are in the Lobby.

 

GOOD FRIDAY - APR., 18

Our Good Friday service, held from 12 - 3 pm, will take place during the hours Jesus suffered on the cross. This moving service will feature seven short sermons on Christ's seven last words by our preaching team and guest speakers, a choral presentation, congregational hymns, & prayer. The choir will present "Return to Me" with text by Terry York, music by Taylor Scott Davis and will be accompanied by Tim Heavner on the piano, Janelle Sands on cello and soprano soloist, Amy Stabnau. No childcare available.  Come for part or all of the service.

 

COMMUNITY EASTER EGG HUNT

Please come out for the Community Easter Egg Hunt Held Sat., Apr.19, from 10 am-12 pm at the church. For questions or to assist in this project, please contact Robin Billings at 412-741-1790.

CAR SEAT SAFETY CHECK - Tomorrow Night!

Is your car seat installed correctly?  Help keep the little ones in your life safe by having it inspected.  Mommy Meet-Up is sponsoring a free Car Seat Safety Check Fri., Apr. 11 from 9:15 am - 1 pm in the church parking lot. Certified Car Seat Technicians from the State Police will be there to inspect or install your car seat (please bring all pieces of the car seat & the car's manual.)  For more details email Amy Kelly.

 

PALM CROSS HELP NEEDED

Calling all women, men and children. We will be making palm crosses on Sat., Apr. 12, 10 am to 12:30 pm in the lobby.  Even if you have only a small amount of time to spend, please stop and assist.  Donuts and coffee will be available and it's great way to meet people and get to know each other better. Please contact Terri Cook  at 412-320-3022 with any questions.

 

PRAYER SHAWL MEETING

Please join us Sat., Apr. 12 at 10:30 am in the Laura Robertson Room. We'd love to have new members to knit or crochet our shawls and/or baby blankets. Please contact Annette Moulton for further information.

 

GEOFF WANTS TO PRAY FOR YOU

Our Senior Pastor Geoff Chapman will be away this summer on sabbatical and would like to spend time praying for us while he is gone. Please pick up a prayer request sheet from the information centers, add a photo of you and your family to it and a list of your prayer needs. Please return your completed prayer request form to the pastoral care office or the reception desk by Apr. 25, so that we might collect them all into a notebook for Geoff.     

  

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY

The Bishop will be visiting St. Stephen's for a special service of Confirmation Sun., Apr. 27 (9 & 11:15 am services). Confirmation is a wonderful event where members of our church family celebrate and affirm their faith in Christ and membership in our church family. If you are a baptized member and would like to be confirmed at please contact the church office at 412-741-1790 or Katie Lau.

 

MEN'S DINNER

Wed., Apr. 30 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm in Grace Commons. All men are welcome. Feel free to bring a friend!  There is no cost; a free-will offering will be taken.  Sign-ups will be in the Lobby.

 

FAMILY FISHING DERBY

Held Sat., May 10, 11 am to 3 pm at the Fishing pond in Harrisville, PA. Register at tables in the Lobby April 27 and May 4. $10 a slot. No license needed. Bait and lunch will be provided.

  

SCRIPTURE UNION USA (E100 CHALLENGE)

Invites all to celebrate with them as they honor Archbishop Robert Duncan at their Annual Dinner, Sun., May 18, at 6 pm. The evening will be held at the LeMont Restaurant. Contact Jan McGinnis at 412-463-8380 for reservations.

 

SMALL FLATBED CART NEEDED

The bell choir is looking for a small flatbed cart to move the bell equipment more easily.    They have 6 cases of bells and chimes that constantly need to be moved.   Though we in the bell choir appreciate the exercise, we would appreciate a cart even more!  Please contact Kelly Nan at the church if you have a cart to donate.   Thank you!

 

CONSTANT COMPASSION

In the month of April the People Helper's Ministry is collecting food for the Charis 24/7 food bank located in Coraopolis. Cards are located on the information tables with lists of items that are needed.  Please place purchased items in the shopping cart located in the lobby. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Would you like to help a single mom in need? The boutique is our primary outreach to single mothers in the area, and we need help. We are looking for volunteers to work in our boutique on Friday mornings from 9-11:30am. If you can provide one morning a month, or if you would like further information about helping with the boutique please contact Marilyn Mulvihill.

 

CLOTHING DONATIONS ACCEPTED

We are accepting donations of children's clothing, sizes nb - 12 only, for the SidebySide boutique. Clothing must be clean and in "like-new" condition and can be dropped off in the coat room. Due to space, we can only accept clothing through the end of May. 

  

NOAH'S ARK PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN

Noah's Ark Preschool & Kindergarten is an important weekday ministry of our church. Who can you suggest it to? Accredited by Association of Christian Schools International, classes for ages 3 - Kindergarten, & excellent Christian early school experience. The interactive class on the Gospel of Matthew meets in the Lecture Hall at 10:15 am, with Dave Wollman as the facilitator. All are welcome to attend.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

If you are a high school student or an adult who is available to provide additional support and love to a child in the pre-school or elementary program we would love to talk with you!  The Children's Ministry Team is working to find and train volunteers to act as "buddies" for our children with special needs.  For more information contact

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday April 12 from 5 -7:30 pm.  The hunt will be followed by dinner for moms & kids.  Please register with Amy Kelly.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT HOLY WEEK

There will be no Bible studies Holy Week. Also no Sunday School or Pulse on Easter Sunday, 4/20. MS Bible studies resume Tues., Apr. 22 from 7-8 pm. HS Bible studies resume Tues., Apr. 29, 7-8 pm.

 

SUMMER CELEBRATION APPLICATIONS ARE DUE

Middle and high school students are encouraged to apply to be a camp counselor June 23-27. Forms go to Children's Ministry.

  

STUDENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR EASTER EGG HUNT

If you want to help with this community-wide Easter egg hunt by hanging out with kids, face painting, and promoting Summer Celebration, this is for you! We need 10 teen volunteers from 8:30am-12pm on Sat., Apr. 19. Let Laura know if you are interested.

 

HIGH SCHOOL EVENT - "FM419" EVANGELISM TRAINING

Tues., Apr. 22, from 7-9 pm, we will drive to Christ Church at Grove Farm to participate in an area-wide evangelism and witness training for teens. This event is part of the Franklin Graham Festival of Hope in Pittsburgh (Aug. 15-17) and will be a high-quality event with great music and teaching. Meet at the church at 6:45 pm and we'll return by 9:15 pm. There is no cost; RSVP to Doug Raeder.

 

MAN VS. WILD

May 2-4, the high school guys will plunge into the wilderness on an epic adventure. This is a great chance to bond with other guys, enjoy the great outdoors, and grow in your walk with Christ. Look for the forms next week and contact Doug Raeder for more details.

Meets in the Henning House from 7-8 am. Our study through the book of Joshua is led by Wicks Stephens.

 

FRIDAY FORUM MEN'S GATHERING

The Friday Forum group meets weekly in the Lecture Hall from 6:30-8 am. Join us as we journey through the New Testament!

 

SATURDAY MORNING MEN'S BIBLE STUDY

Meets Sat. 8 am and is engaged in an in-depth study of the writings of the Apostle John. Contact Larry Rice.

THURSDAY DINNER GROUP - Tonight!!

Single women of all ages and stages of life - register now for our next dinner!

CHRISTY HOUSE

Are you longing for a step back in time? The Christy House is that place on Fridays. The Victorian-style Civil War-era tea room will be set for lunch between 11:30 am - 1:30 pm. We will be serving your choice of homemade soups, salad, bread and cookies. Come early and shop in the Needles's Eye and Earthly Treasures. TUESDAY TEACHING SERIES

Our study of 1 & 2 Peter continues every Tues. morning in the Lecture Hall 10:30 to 11:30.  This is a great way to hear solid teaching while getting connected to the women of the St. Stephen's community. Each week stands on its own, and there is no homework, so you are welcome to attend when able. Please contact Julie McCormick

ANNUAL MOTHER DAUGHTER TEA

Come celebrate a special relationship in your life - mother, daughter, aunt, grandma, friend - with an enchanting tea experience on May 10 from 10 to Noon. Two seatings are offered, at 10 and 11 in the Lobby. Activities include a photo booth, face and nail painting stations and crafts.  No cost for this event, but seating is limited, so registration is required.  You may register before or after services the weekends of Apr. 26/27 and May 3/4 or by calling the church office.  Please indicate your preferred seating time when registering.
