EDC's New PSA on Ocean Acidification-The future of the Ocean is in our Hands

Join us on May 9th from 4:00-5:00 PM at UCSB's Bren Hall Room 1414 to watch the debut of EDC's NEW 30 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) about the chemical changes taking place in our oceans. This change referred to as Ocean Acidification is also known as "the evil twin of global warming." As our oceans are absorbing increasing levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) they are becoming more acidic. This far-reaching change threatens life in our seas, our food security, and our seafood economy. Come learn how EDC developed the PSA while also educating yourself on steps to take action. There is no better example of how thinking and acting locally can have global impacts and implications.

Goleta Heritage Farmlands Initiative Petitions Are Circulating - Sign Today!

WHAT: The Goodland Coalition is conducting a signature gathering drive to qualify Goleta's Heritage Farmlands Initiative for the November ballot.

WHEN: May 2012.

WHERE: Volunteers will be circulating throughout the City of Goleta.

BACKGROUND: The Goodland Coalition filed papers for the Goleta Heritage Farmlands Initiative at the end of February, and now the group is gathering signatures to qualify the Initiative for November's ballot. EDC helped draft the Heritage Farmlands Initiative which, if passed, would require voter approval before certain agricultural parcels in Goleta could be rezoned. If you are registered to vote in the City of Goleta, and if you are interested in helping preserve our region's remaining agricultural lands, please spare a couple hours to gather signatures; for more information, please visit contact goletafarmland@gmail.com or visit www.goletaheritagefarmland.org or EDC's website.

WHAT:  The Goodland Coalition has started a signature gathering drive to qualify Goleta's Heritage Farmlands Initiative for the November ballot.

WHEN:  Monday, May 7, 7-9 PM

WHERE:  Marjorie Luke Theatre (721 East Cota)

Background: A FIERCE GREEN FIRE: The Battle For a Living Planet is the first big-picture exploration of the environmental movement - grassroots and global activism spanning fifty years from conservation to climate change. From halting dams in the Grand Canyon to battling 20,000 tons of toxic waste at Love Canal; from Greenpeace saving the whales to Chico Mendes and the rubbertappers saving the Amazon; from climate change to the promise of transforming our civilization, the film tells vivid stories about people fighting - and succeeding - against enormous odds.
