EDItion April 2014
Message from the President

Dear EDI Customers and Industry Partners,

Welcome to our Spring EDItion newsletter. It has certainly been a very busy spring at EDI so far with a lot of exciting things to share with you since our last newsletter.

First, we are growing and looking to hire in both our Atlanta and Denver locations. Please see our website for more details and let your network know about our employment opportunity.

We are very excited to have won a number of new engagements, including our work at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. We have been hired to help them plan and manage the technology deployment in a number of new projects, and we are looking forward to a long and successful partnership with MSKCC. We are also excited to be helping Northeast Georgia Health System expand and upgrade their existing data center. Out West, we continue to support CoBank's new corporate headquarters. See more about what we have been up to below.

In this EDItion, we share with your our new fly through videos demonstrating both a hospital patient room and a collaborative learning space. We created these fly through simulations to help end users visualize the many ways that technology can enhance and improve both the patient experience and collaborative learning. We also share some of our research and experience with the "office of the future."

Please don't hesitate to call if there is anything with which we can help you. We appreciate your business and look forward to continue our relationship as your trusted advisor.

I hope you enjoy the information that follows and have a wonderful day!

Sincerely,

Don Kinser, PE, MBA, CPHIMS

Chairman, President & CEO

The Future of the Office Space

By Jim Harrison, RCDD

Principal and Vice President

EDI has designed the technology systems for corporate office spaces for over 25 years. From the early days designing UPS Global Headquarters in Alpharetta, GA to CoBank's new headquarters in Denver, CO, the corporate office space is changing. Not only are we working in different types of spaces with new technology, corporations are encouraging employees to work differently. Office Spaces are becoming much more about flexible and collaborative centric spaces rather than hard wall fixed offices and named cubes. To continue this article, click here.

Collaborative Learning Classrooms - Best Practices

Brian Murphey By Brian Murphey, CTS

Sr. Audio-Visual Consultant

There are plenty of books and articles out there about collaborative learning classrooms (also referred to as cooperative learning classrooms). A quick Google search also turns up plenty of acronyms for these spaces as well:  TEAL, SCALE-UP, PIES, CLE, CSCL, and the list goes on. As expected, much of this information is contradictory and, sometimes, self-serving and aimed at selling a particular method, system, or product. There are usually very few specifics on the technology design aspect, probably because technology is a moving target: constantly evolving and difficult to incorporate    into a standard, without the standard quickly becoming obsolete. To continue  this article, click here.
