W Encourager Header
Welcome to EFC-ER's Weekly Encourager. We trust that this will become a bright spot each week in your emails. The purpose of the Weekly Encourager is to provide up-to-date information about region-wide events, prayer requests, and helpful resources from the local churches. We will close each email with a quick quote and/or survey to gather helpful resources from leaders to share with our wider Friends family.
Yearly Meeting 2015

This year at Yearly Meeting, Malone University warmly welcomed pastors, delegates, missionaries, and members of the Friends church for a week of fellowship, prayer, and services designed around living "In Perspective." You can watch the services here: https://livestream.com/maloneuniversity/events/4205625

Theresa Mabry coordinated the 5K Run/1 Mile Walk on Saturday afternoon. There were 13 participants and the youngest was 9 years old. The overall winner was Andy Black (Salem) with a time of 23:16. The runners raised $200 to send to the Bertrands to help pay their school teachers in Haiti. Thank you to all who came out and ran/walked for missions this year!

Mission Encounter this year was held in the Hoover Dining Commons. Several of our missionaries and guests shared what God is doing around the world. He is using the Eastern Region in many ways!

Sunday night over 250 youth joined the service in the Johnson Center Worship Center. Wayne Evans (General Superintendent) spoke on what it means to live "In Perspective" and to see things through God's eyes instead of our own.

We celebrated the inclusion of three Hispanic churches (Baltimore, Chicago, and Kingston) into full-church status on Monday morning. A parade of delegates and pastors lined the Johnson Center hill to release balloons with members of the Hispanic churches.

Special musical guests, Dick and Mel Tunney, shared their talents on Monday night with a worship concert.

Friends Youth United had a fun week on Malone's East Campus with their own activities and services.

Yearly Meeting surely is a team effort inside and out of the office! A special thanks to those who stepped forward and went the extra mile with service and kindness:

Cindy Lundin, Patty Smozney, Matt Baker, and all the staff at Malone who did anything that was needed to accommodate us during our stay on campus.

Drivers who picked up vans, delivered people to the airport, and drove kids off campus on Monday and Tuesday.

Sue Reese for coordinating the Mission Encounter and Lynn Weisel for her help with decorations.

Theresa Mabry who coordinated the 5K Run.

Kevin and Lori Spitzer, hosts at the Welcome Center.

Jon Delker's youth group from Hughesville who helped with table setup and Sunday's offering.

Ushers for the evening services.

Karen Peterson from Battle Creek who served as our nurse.

Several of our board members who pitched in to do hands-on ministry during the week.

Ladies who pampered us in the office with candy, coffee, flowers, etc.

Kris Lackey who coordinated the Children's Program and

Justin Hendershott who put together Friends Youth United.

Stan Hinshaw and the team for leading us in worship each night.

And many more!

Adventure Camp Update
Even with the rain, campers enjoyed time in nature together. They learned the importance of a relationship with God on an adventure with Him.
T he kids were able to explore the woods, have an outdoor picnic, and sleep under the stars. It was a great week of outdoor fun!

Splash Camp Update
Splash Camp had 65 campers, and kids from the Yearly Meeting Program were able to join for a day of fun.
The campers had a good time in the warm weather and had many "splash-tastic" adventures. The counselors and staff taught the kids about the attributes of God and how our actions should flow from a heart that worships Him.
