W Encourager Header
Welcome to EFC-ER's Weekly Encourager. We trust that this will become a bright spot each week in your emails. The purpose of the Weekly Encourager is to provide up-to-date information about region-wide events, prayer requests, and helpful resources from the local churches. We will close each email with a quick quote and/or survey to gather helpful resources from leaders to share with our wider Friends family.
"I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest. " - John 4:35

October is
Missions Emphasis Month!
"The month of October is designated as Mission Month for the EFC-ER. Although some churches focus on missions at another time of the year, it is healthy for all to set aside a time to think, talk, and pray about missions annually."

"The mission work to be done is extensive. The need for our missionaries to be fully supported is now. They need encouragement. They need prayer. They need the financial support of EFC-ER churches. Together we have been making an impact in various countries around the world. Let's continue to do so with joy and generosity."

"While most of us are called to stay in our own neighborhood mission fields, we can (and do) send others who are called to make the Lord known among the nations."
- Matthew Chesnes, Chair of the Mission Board

You can learn more about our missionaries on the newly updated Missions section of the EFC-ER website at:  http://efcer.org/missionaries.

One example of the Lord being made known among the nations involves our new ministry to Bhutanese refugees here in the United States. This past Sunday, October 11th, Christian Community Friends Church in Columbus, Ohio had their first official service (photos above). The Nepali-Bhutanese church leaders gave EFC-ER representatives silk scarfs as a sign of respect and hospitality. It is extra special because Everett Cattell (as a missionary  in India 80 years ago) had maps of Nepal sewn onto scarves like those, believing one day the door would open for Friends to go to Nepal. We were able to begin work in Nepal 25 years ago and later added Bhutan as well. Now we have an extension church of Bhutanese refugees in the USA!

Keeping Prayer a High Priority
We trust that every church is sharing these prayer requests within their local prayer community. Here is this week's request:

1 -  Pray for the family of Kelly Willis (daughter of former pastor Jeff Moran) and her husband Mike (former EFC-ER pastor). Kelly passed away on Friday, October 9th, 2015. The memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, October 17th at High Point Church. The obituary may be found here:
Thank You & Congratulations to Chris and Nancy Jackson
from Wayne Evans and the EFC-ER

Chris and Nancy Jackson were young married students at Malone University when they pastored their first church with the EFC-ER at Springdale.  For years now, they have ministered as Springdale's superintendent - along with a host of other churches, as well as Hispanic and Indian ministries across the region. After this week, they will leave us to return to pastoral ministry where Nancy's nephew pastors a church in Florida.

To say they will be missed is totally inadequate. Whether they have been in a pastoral or superintendent role - or Chris' beloved golf outings - they were indispensable to strengthening and shaping people's walk with Christ. For Regina and me, we will always treasure a friendship forged at Malone and blossomed on a double date to see our two rival high schools battle out a homecoming football game. Add to that the endless number of meetings Chris and I have had over the past two years approaching our new responsibilities, believe me...we could not have gotten as far as we have were it not for them.

On our region's behalf, we have bestowed some appropriate gifts on the Jacksons with the most meaningful ones being our gratitude, hearts, and prayers - the same generous gifts they have always given to us.  To Chris and Nancy, thank you and may God bless you.

Also, congratulations on the birth of their new grandson, Owen Robert (to Tricia and Stephen Calhoun) on Thursday, October 8th!

Over 80 years ago, Everett Cattell passed out scarves with maps of Nepal sewn on them. They were given as a reminder to pray that one day we would be able to enter Nepal to do missions. If you happen to have one of those scarves, or know someone who does, please contact the World Outreach Center. Thank you for your help!

This year's materials include 2016 calendar magnets, a prayer focus insert, bulletin covers, posters, and a children's coloring packet.
