Boca Raton, FL - March 6, 2017 -  EGSA Remembers John Winbery, our 1996 EGSA President Active Member 1975 through 2006

It is with great sorrow that we report John Winbery, EGSA President 1996, passed away on February 27, 2017 at the age of 86. John is survived by his wife Carolyn Osborne Winbery, whom he was married to for 45 years and 2 of his 3 children from a previous marriage, John Calvin Winbery and Julie Ann Guidry, along with a host of other family and friends who loved him.
John served as EGSA's 32nd President. In his time with EGSA John brought many things to the table. He served on the Executive Board and was also the Chair of our Distributed Generation Committee. John authored the chapter on generator switchgear in the EGSA reference book, "On Site Power Generation - Fourth Edition." In 2002, John received the Carpenter Award for his long and outstanding service to the Association.

John also served the industry in several undertakings. He was a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, IEEE, a voting member of the IEEE Standards Association and a member of the IEEE Industry Applications Society as well as a member of IEEE PCIC, Petroleum and Chemical Industry Committee.  He worked on the chapter on switchboards for the 1998 revision to IEEE-45, Recommended Practice for Electrical Installations on Shipboard. He also served on the IEEE-45 2002 revision committee and was the Vice Chairman of the switchboard working group for a new revision of the book on switchboards, IEEE-45.7, that was published May 12, 2012. John was also a past member of the American Arbitration Association, where he was appointed to the Panel of Arbitrators.

Friends were invited to a visitation with the family at Mandeville's First Baptist Church, 1895 Hwy 190, Mandeville, LA 70448 on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 2:00 PM followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM and a reception for all at the church at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of John E. Winbery to be made to Mandeville's First Baptist Church Building Fund. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
