Bluegrass Delegation to Advocate for Regional Priorities on Capitol Hill During D.C. Fly-In July 23-24


EKU President, Michael Benson and Government Relations Executive Director, David McFaddin attended the 2014 Commerce Lexington Washington Fly-In. 


Attendees had the opportunity to meet with members of Kentucky's Congressional Delegation, agency officials, Congressional staffs and legislative experts to discuss critical federal policy issues facing Kentucky and the nation.


Additionally, 55 attendees met with representatives of the U.S. EPA about the agency's new regulations on carbon emissions, and the potential impact on Kentucky's economy and electricity rates. They also received an in-depth briefing from a panel of experts about reform legislation to workforce investment laws and how the changes will improve workforce training in Central Kentucky.

President, Michael Benson was the keynote speaker for the Manchester Regional Campus 2013-14 GED graduation, which took place on June 25, 2014. Congratulations to those EKU Clay County GED graduates.

More than 35 volunteers helped to install a rain garden at EKU Corbin, which will filter dangerous pollutants like oil and antifreeze that are washed from the campus' parking lot when it rains.

EKU Danville Summer Camp

Gifted and Talented Summer Camp a Success at EKU Danville

Thirteen energetic middle grade students from three counties took part in the 2014 "Project Discovery" Summer Camp at the EKU Danville Regional Campus June 9-13.

Instructor Mary Lamar, from EKU's Chemistry Department, led the students through the week-long course in "CSI-Crime Scene Investigators."

In 2002 Dawn Rayburn had three kids, no job, and received food stamps.
Now after graduating from Hazard Community and Technical College and Eastern Kentucky University through the University Center of the Mountains, she has a job she's always dreamed of having, and has an income that means she no longer qualifies for food stamps.

EKU Manchester: Inaugural Leadership East KY Class

The Eastern Kentucky University Manchester Regional Campus hosted its inaugural Leadership East Kentucky class on July 8, 2014.  LEK is a regional leadership training and development organization, serving residents throughout Eastern Kentucky. 

Operating in our 16th year of programming, LEK will now be organized and lead by Eastern Kentucky University from the Manchester Regional Campus.

Forbes Names EKU among America's Best Colleges for 7th Consecutive Year


Eastern Kentucky University ranks among "America's Best Colleges" for the seventh consecutive year, according to Forbes, the popular business magazine. Because Forbes recognizes 650 undergraduate institutions among approximately 6,600 accredited postsecondary institutions nationwide, the ranking essentially places Eastern among the top 10 percent of colleges and universities.

Chronicle Names EKU "Great College to Work For"


Eastern Kentucky University is a "Great College to Work For," according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.


In its 2014 "Great Colleges to Work For" edition, The Chronicle honors EKU among 92 colleges and universities nationwide. Eastern and Murray State University are the only four-year large institutions (enrollment of at least 10,000) in Kentucky to make the list.
