"Teach me to number my days that I might apply my heart unto wisdom." (Psalm 90:12)

Hello Everyone

As we shift into August, the transitional month between summer and fall, I find myself pondering the wisdom of this particular psalm. As we move with God through the seasonal cycles of life, we can let change do one of two things: make us confused and lost- or move us into a deeper relationship with the Divine. The benefit of that latter course is a more authentic self, which we then share with the world.

I have loved every moment of my time here and will miss you very much.

I have had many people ask where my next stop is- and I have to say, like Jacob, I am just not sure right now. One of three possible paths- but wherever I go, I take with me the genuine fellowship and fun of being with you for ten months. You have truly restored my faith in congregational ministry. When you work in chaplaincy, you tend to be a "lone ranger", doing your own thing. With you, I have learned the necessary fellowship and team work of the early church.

I am flying off to British Columbia for a week. I look forward to that break, but mostly I look forward to the wonderful future God has for all of us. I continue to be blessed in my visits with you, and will continue when I return. As we wind down the summer, I am continually thankful to the great staff here at Erin Mills- to Len for the variety of musical praise, to Peter for always being at the door of our church "welcoming the stranger"- and to Sylvia who is a corner stone of your ministry here.

We will meet again for Prayers and Communion on Wednesday August 16th.

AMEN!

Praise be, Rev Jackie: Supply Minister

CELEBRATION FOR REV. JACKIE
Please join us for Jackie's farewell service on Sunday, August 27. We would like to acknowledge Jackie's time with us by making a presentation and enjoying some sweet treats after the service. Anyone wishing to contribute to a gift, please speak to Peter in the office. Come and help us show our gratitude for all that Jackie has done for us through her time at EMUC.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES FOR HAITI.
Again this year there is a request for school supplies to be delivered to three schools in Haiti through Children of Hope Haiti.  A revised list has been made as there is a new school being supported.   A box has been placed at the back of the church where the lists can be found.  Please place your donations in the box.

NEW FUNDRAISING PROGRAM
We are continuing with FUNDSCRIP, an innovative fundraising program that asks you to purchase gift cards in order to pay for regular items you buy every month.  A percentage of the cards we purchase through FUNDSCRIP is donated back to our church.   Order forms for gift cards will be available the last Sunday of every month. The next order date is Sunday, August 27th.   Please see the display board at the back of the church or speak to Joanne Hines if you have any questions about the program.

NEW MINISTER UPDATE
We will welcome Rev. Kathi Phillips for her first service with us on Sunday, September 10.  Kathi will start in the office on Tuesday September 5.  As was specified in the JNAC report, an orientation committee is in place to support Kathi as she joins EMUC in the fall.  The committee members are Kathy Andres, David Leeder, Georganne Vickery and Cathy Scattergood.  Please watch for further announcements as we move through another phase in this exciting journey at Erin Mills United.
