Volunteer Resource Center Seeking Task Captains for Day of Service
The University of Colorado-Boulder Day of Service is a program hosted by the Volunteer Resource Center and Residence Life. The Day of Service program exists to introduce new CU students to ongoing volunteerism by connecting them to the needs of their surrounding and campus communities. Our goal is to see our students graduate as active citizens of the world engaged in their communities. Last year, over 330 first-year students volunteered at local schools and in the community to revitalize the area, complete much-needed painting, and clean up the neighborhoods surrounding the CU Boulder campus. This is a dynamic opportunity for you to get involved and serve as a leader, in addition to becoming part of this Week of Welcome tradition, as this program is expected to grow to include ALL first-year students.

The 2014 Day of Service will take place on Saturday, August 23rd, 2014. Potential projects include flood restoration and park rehabilitation, working with local community schools on projects, developing community gardens, and painting murals. Students, staff, faculty, and alumni are encouraged to take on leadership roles within the Day of Service as Project Leaders and Task Captains.

Task Captains are assigned to help Project Leaders through service work. Task Captains often lead a specific subset of the volunteer work, such as painting a mural, building a community garden, or mentoring a small group of schoolchildren. Task Captains are led by the Project Leaders and work closely with volunteers to make a difference and impact the community. Please take a minute to read the Task Captain manual before applying. You can view the task captain manual here

Task Captains must be in Boulder during August 2014 to attend trainings and help plan for the Day of Service. Time commitment is expected to be about 5 hours a week throughout the duration of August.
