Welcome back to school! It probably seems like you have been on campus for quite a while, and fall is literally knocking at our door. Many things have been happening in our state and nation, and my sincere hope is that you are well and your needs met. We keep our fellow Texans, Floridians, and all who have been impacted by recent tragedy in our thoughts and prayers. Take some time for you, and thank you for all that you do as YOU are the heart of campus.
See you soon at ESC Region 12,

I typically make tea by boiling water on the stove in a little sauce pan, and drop 2 tea bags in to simmer before emptying into a pitcher with more water and of course, the Southern staple of sugar. Being a little paranoid about the paper tags hanging over the pot, I sometimes stretch the thread of the tea bag out to the little handle and tuck the paper tags in a slot on the pan-handle, just in case they were to find their way to the burner and cause a heated problem on the stove. I guess I've been doing this for years, and never thought about it at all. As a busy Mom, my kids often drift in and out of the kitchen when I'm cooking and sample just about anything they see (whether I like it or not), and go on their way. On one occasion, I was in a hurry to make a meal before ball practice and asked my teenage daughter to help by making tea for the family. She obediently took out a little sauce pot as I scurried around, grabbing jars and opening cans. When I looked up, she had quietly disappeared to her room. There on the stove sat the little sauce pan, with the threads of the tea bags extended to the handle, the paper tags neatly tucked in the slot away from the burner. I tried to recall exactly when I instructed her to do that, and to my recollection, I don't believe that I ever verbally told her to do it. But she knew to do it anyway. I stopped to soak in the lesson to me, that whether I'm instructing them or not, they are learning from me. They are watching my mannerisms, and every now and then, listening to me. Probably way more than I realize. So the next time I had the chance, I gave my daughter a simple "just because" hug, and thanked her. For it may not be for many years that one day her daughter will come to help in the kitchen, and my daughter may unknowingly pass down the lesson of the tea bag.
