Golf Leagues
Banbury Competitive and the Traveling Non-Competitive League Results!

There were 6 teams in each flight (24 total members) of the Banbury Competitive league and 17 members in the Traveling Non-Competitive league.  There was good competition and great golf all around. The weather was nice to us all 8 weeks.  The best part, though, was the perfect blend of competition and a ton of fun.  Looking forward to next year's leagues!

Banbury Competitive League:

Here are the results:

A Flight

1st place Cindy Tealey and Paula Faulkner

2nd place Carol Brown and Erica Phillips

B Flight

1st place Judi Branch and Amy Jones

2nd place (by 1/2 point) Janis Wood and Diane Evans

Travel League - Non-Competitive:

No formal stats -- just lots of fun traveling and working on handicaps!  17 members joined the travel league, playing at Robinhood at Falconcrest / wee-9 at Ridgecrest / Eagle Hills / and Banbury.

Golf Events
Plantation Sunday -
18-Hole Stroke Play Event!

9th Hole

On Sunday,

Sept 14 -

26 EWGA members teed off at beautiful Plantation Country Club!

The day saw some outstanding results, with Rhonda Bulcher shooting a season best, Mary Michael Rogers hitting a new personal best, and Kris Fenwick playing outstanding golf despite being ill following vacation-related air travel.  Each foursome was hosted by a dual EWGA/Plantation member, which added to the fun and helped women meet new friends.  The day was capped off with stories, food and beverages on the patio and in the clubhouse.

Let's do it again!

Refer A Friend - With the Touch of a Button!
  • Know some women who might be interested in EWGA?  Or have you recently spoken to someone who said they want to start golfing but you didn't have a brochure to hand them?
  • You can either go to or to your Chapter's website, and you'll find the REFER A FRIEND graphic in the rolling photos under the 'Hot News from EWGA HQ' area.
  • Just click on the graphic and it will take you to the form where you can enter information about yourself so you get credit as the recruiter, and the name and contact information for your friend - and we'll do the rest.
  • We'll follow up with an email and link to join online - or mail them a brochure if you have their mailing address.
Health Tip
Golf - for the Health of it!

The following findings are from a report by Walker Research Group:

  • A walked 18-hole round, carrying a bag or using a hand/pull cart, is approximately equal to a 5-mile walk.
  • The total caloric expenditure for an 18-hole round is approximately 2,000 calories for walking while carrying clubs, and 1,300 calories when riding in a cart.
  • Since walking is biomechanically more efficient than running, playing an 18-hole round of golf walking is roughly equivalent to a 3.5 to 4-mile run.
  • When walking 18-holes of golf, blood glucose levels fall by up to 20% for the young, 10% for the middle-aged, and 30% for the elderly players, and body weight is slightly reduced among all age groups.
  • Repeated golf practice enhances balance control and confidence among all age ranges.
