Handicap Help
Pat Palmer-Ball
Louisville Chapter Handicap Chair

Many members, especially newer members, may not realize that your EWGA membership includes a handicapping service. As a member you should post all your golf scores on either the EWGA website or through GHIN if you have a GHIN membership. You are required to post every score whether it is played during regular EWGA league night, with a friend or spouse on the weekend. This does not apply to scrambles or any other round where you are not keeping your score or Par 3 courses.

Click Handicap to read the information from the EWGA website on how to post your scores. Check out Learn About Handicaps for some very valuable information on why it is beneficial to keep a handicap.

Thanks for your help!

Do you have any suggestions for EWGA, the Louisville Region Chapter, Newsletter, Website, Events, Sponsors, Leagues, etc.?
Feel free to send comments/suggestions to SUGGESTIONS

Note from the Editor
Marketing Director | Newsletter Editor

I would like to apologize for the lack of a newsletter these past few months! We decided to put our house up for sale in early Spring and it sold in two weeks! So our spring and summer has been filled with cleaning, packing, garage saling, Craigslisting, packing, moving, unpacking, more unpacking, decorating, and waiting for all those installation people and repair people that have to come over once you move in! On top of that, I started teaching a class at Sullivan College of Technology and Design and just had to put the newsletter on the back burner.

I am now back in golf mode, so if you have any suggestions, would like to write an article, have a golf tip, etc., please let me know or send something my way!

Jennifer Gregg
University of Louisville

What is your occupation?
I am an Associate Professor in the Communication Department at U of L. I've been a member of the faculty since 2002, and was director of graduate studies for our department from 2007-2013.

How long have you been golfing and what made you start?

I originally started just out of college.  My first job was in a small town and there wasn't much to do, so I bought a set of used clubs and took a golf class at the local community college.  I hated it!  I had been a tennis player in college and I did not appreciate the pace (or the finesse!) of golf.  When we moved to Louisville I decided I would try again so I bought a few used clubs and took a course with Skip Welch at Bellarmine around 2004 or 05 (where I first met EWGA colleague Shari Lawler!)  I've been playing on and off since then, but have taken it more seriously since joining EWGA.

How long have you been an EWGA member?

This is my third year. I had been looking for a women's league for a couple years, but most of the leagues play during the day.  I was so happy when my neighbor told me about EWGA!

Besides golf, what has been your involvement with EWGA?

Well, I'm at almost every social event! I've also volunteered for the chapter championship and a couple other events.

Best Golf Advice:

Always carry a pencil with an eraser!

Favorite Golf Courses:

Crail Scotland, Balcomie course. My grandmother was from Crail and last year I was lucky enough to visit.  Now I know what a links course really is!  I didn't get to play at St. Andrews but did visit The Old Course which was an experience! Another fun experience was Pitch and Putt in Ireland. It was so much fun to be driving along and see a pitch and putt sign and to just pull over and hop on the course.

Besides golf, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I have 13-year-old twin boys, so "spare time" is a bit of an oxymoron.  I am an avid reader and also crocheter.  I enjoy scuba diving and since my husband and kids just got certified, I look forward to scuba trips in the near future. If I have the time and the budget, I love to travel.

What is something about you that others might find surprising.

I started college as a physics and piano performance major.  During my sophomore year I was selected for a summer immersion at the Boston Conservatory. I learned pretty quickly that performance was not where I saw my life, so I changed my major and even my university.  I eventually went on to earn my PhD in telecommunications, and most of my research deals with new technology in the healthcare sector.

Event Registration
When registering for an event (Golf Leagues, Networking and Social Events, Clinics, etc.), please register via the link in the event email. This link takes you to EventSpot, the registration platform that we began using earlier this year. This has made keeping track of all the detail so much easier for every one involved in an event. It even helps you, the registrant, by having a one step process in registering and the payment, if applicable.

Please keep in mind that you are welcome to email the event organizer with questions, but we cannot accept an email as registration for an event. Please follow the link in the email for all event registration.
Do you have any photos from an EWGA event or league play that you would like to share? We'd love to feature them on the website, newsletter or Flickr! Send to JILL SLAVINSKY.
Golf Tip
Amy Baach
Weekend Golf Coordinator

I read a tip from Hank Haney that suggested everyone who plays golf should spend 10 minutes a day swinging a golf club up to 100 times. They can start with 25, then 50 and work up to 100. It should only take 10 minutes. Just swing freely and don't actually hit a ball. Go out into your backyard or stay in your living room. It builds up muscle memory and within two weeks you'll be hitting better and more consistently. I don't know if it works, but...it's worth a try!!!

And don't worry if you're lined up right or hitting correctly. It's the muscle memory that's important!! Don't think, Swing!!
