Textile Artist and Tutor

 Newsletter 69 ~ 17th November 2013
BUSY MONTH AHEAD

Thought I should get this newsletter done before heading of for the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate and then hopefully I will get one more newsletter out before heading of for Uganda. Mind you there are a few things happening in between as well, such as planning, teaching, a concert, visits to doctors for jabs, sons graduation and on it goes. But I reckoned a few more ideas for Christmas might not go amiss, so here goes.
COURSES FOR 2014

In my excitement of telling you all about the great tutors coming here next year to teach, I did forget to mention one other tutor.............. myself!!!!! Not that I am saying that I am great or anything, but one or two of you might like to spend some time with me in the summer.

28th, 29th, 30th and 31st July
Drawing and Designing for Textiles

11th, 12th, 13th and 14th August
Drawing and Designing for Art

Both courses will have a similar beginning of looking at how drawing can be used to generate and develop ideas into personalised designs through a series of well practised techniques and with individual responses being encouraged at all times.

The first course in July will see these developments being resolved into FABRIC and STITCH
The second course in August will be progress ideas into WET and DRY COLOURING and PAINTING MEDIA

225 for each four-day Summer School.
Prices include tuition, some course materials and a light lunch each day. Hot and cold drinks will be available throughout each day.
Email me for details of booking or print off the booking form

So why not buy one of these courses for Christmas or revisit the courses advertised in the last newsletter, but I must tell you that one course is already FULL with a waiting list and another couple are nearly full. So don't dilly dally otherwise you will only be disappointed......go on do drop a hint to your other half or members of your family that a course at Moor Hall would be a great idea.

EXHIBITIONS
Knitting and Stitching Show ~ Harrogate
So now that I have organised good ways for you to spend your money, have a look at what else is on, here and elsewhere, that is well worth a visit.

First of all what about coming to say hello to me and Ruth Issett on stand TG525 at the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate. Our exhibition is called 'Equal on All 4 Sides' and this will be the last of the 3 shows. My courses that I am giving there I understand are now full, but I would love to see you at our stand. Do avoid visiting me on Thursday and Friday morning from 10.30 to 11.30 as that is when I am away teaching.

Here's a taste of Ruth                Here's a taste of Bobby
Carol Vaughan
Exhibition of recent Paintings

This is a unique opportunity of seeing the wonderful paintings of Carol Vaughan. It has been put on by kind invitation of CECILY SASH in her fabulous studio in Presteigne. The studio itself is well worth a visit and is a great venue to show Carols work.

Carol is a great painter and uses colour in such an expressionistic way. I just love her work. This is also an unique opportunity to see the studio in which Cecily Sash works and teaches.

Exhibition opens: 7th to 13th December
Time :                   11.00 to 4.00 daily
Telephone:           01568 708251 for further details
Venue:                  Studio Sash, Presteigne, Powys, LD8 2BE
The studio can be found off the by-pass and is conveniently positioned right next to a car-park.
The Workhouse Gallery and Cafe

THE WORKHOUSE GALLERY AND CAFE in Presteigne, Powys is a great place to visit and they sell the most wonderful carpets and textiles and ethically produced gifts.

I am delighted that they will be sellling some of the beautiful crafted bowls and the woven mats made by my ladies in Kisaabwa, Uganda...........

..........and what is more they have an excellent cafe, where food is freshly prepared from local produce.

So why not make a day of it and visit Carol's exhibition and then go out for lunch at the Workhouse Gallery and Cafe, which is just a little further down the road.

DO DROP ME LINE TO LET ME KNOW HOW YOU GOT ON.

BARKCLOTH to ARTSHOES

One small step towards a brighter future

So how are you getting on with your bark cloth shoes. Make your creations as exciting as you can. Create extensions for Janet to apply, add in any materials, use the barkcloth as an addition to your normal working materials and techniques, be inventive, have fun. Keep sending your completed pieces to Janet as soon as you can.

This project as you will all know now, aims to raise funds and awareness for the charity 'Hands up for Uganda'

The bark cloth in these shoes was decorated by Clare Orr. What a fabulous collaboration between Clare and Janet.

Please visit Barkcloth to Artcloth on Facebook to see more shoes in the making.
