Monsignor Kenneth Grimes Men's Night held on April 10th |
Approximately 130 men were in attendance for Men's Night which was held in honor of our beloved Monsignor Kenneth Grimes on Sunday, April 10 at St. Andrew's. Alumni Director Scott Manahan was the master of ceremonies and Jack Park, an Ohio State historian, was the guest speaker. Monsignor Grimes' nephew, Leo '73 ran the silent auction and Advancement Council president Shawn O'Reilly '88 spoke to the group about matching scholarships. Guests were treated to a steak dinner catered by Berwick. Proceeds from this event benefit BWHS students through scholarships. The Alumni and Development Departments are thankful for all who attended or contributed to the success of this event in any way.

We are blessed by the support of our generous alumni!
Did you know that the Annual Eagle Fund bridges the cost of tuition and the actual cost of a Bishop Watterson education? The support of Bishop Watterson alumni helps us build a culture of giving!
As of today, we are currently at 68% of our $300,000 goal. Your generosity will help us to keep pace with technology advancement, ongoing facility enhancements, and will help us to provide tuition assistance funds and grants to those desiring a Catholic education for their children. We are grateful to all who give their time and donations to support our school. You may donate by going to
www.bishopwatterson.com and click "Give to BWHS".

Alumni prepare meals at St. Lawrence Haven
|
The Alumni Department provides service at St. Lawrence Haven on the second Wednesday of each month. We prepare and package meals for the daily lunch line. We normally volunteer from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
St. Lawrence Haven is the St. Vincent de Paul-run sack lunch program. The Haven sits behind Holy Family Church at the corner of Rich and Main streets downtown. Approximately 300-500 meals are served each day. The staff at St. Lawrence Haven is very appreciative of the assistance we provide and we are very thankful for the alumni and friends who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help with this service endeavor.
If you are interested in helping on May 11th, or at a future time, please email Terri Kernan at
tkernan@cdeducation.org. We would love to have you join us!

Principal Marian Hutson Retires
|
Dear Alumni,
Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come.
We have only today. Let us begin.
Mother Teresa
I have spent thirty-eight wonderful years ministering at Bishop Watterson and have had the privilege of sharing in the lives of literally thousand
s of students. I have cherished the friendships I have made with so many staff members, alumni and parents throughout the years. However, it is now time for those yesterdays to be gone and for me to retire so that I can begin a new today. As I conclude my service here at the end of this school year, I am looking forward to having more time for my family, parish and community in the tomorrows to come.
I am confident that the next principal will build on the excellence of the past while forging a new path into the future. I ask that you keep that person, as well as me, in your prayers.
Many blessings to all of you.
Sincerely,
Marian Hutson
Principal

Twel
ve More Seniors To Play College Sports
Twelve Bishop Watterson seniors announced their intent to play college sports on April 13, 2016. This brings the total to 21 college athletes for the Class of 2016.
Left to right - Front row: Jenna Durham, swimming, Indiana University-Purdue University of Indianapolis, Clintonville Academy; Grace Thomas, cross country/track & field, The Ohio State University, St. Andrew School/St. Brigid of Kildare Parish; Maddie Penn, swimming, Ohio Wesleyan University, Ridgeview Middle School; Adelaide Grubbe, cross country, Lake Forest College, Olentangy Shanahan Middle School/Immaculate Conception Parish; Carrie Horan, swimming, LaSalle University, Immaculate Conception School and Parish; Back row: Ben Kring, wrestling, Case Western Reserve University, St. Andrew School and Parish; Garrin Bachinski, track & field, Wittenberg University, St. Andrew School and Parish; Mark Zelnik, baseball, Ohio Northern University, Grove City Christian School/Sts. Simon & Jude Parish; Nate Boone, basketball, Capital University, St. Andrew School and Parish; Jake Winters, football, Wittenberg University, St. Timothy School and Parish; Alex Gabel, baseball, Walsh University, St. Andrew School and Parish; Max McClelland, cross country/track & field, Marquette University, St. Michael School/St. Joan of Arc Parish.
Following are thoughts from a few of these seniors on their experience at Bishop Watterson.
"Bishop Watterson has taught me how to manage my time, organize myself and never give up," said swimmer Maddie Penn. "Having an opportunity to grow and develop with my teammates has been incredible. Watterson has given me four years to become the person I am today, a person that can and will excel in college."
"Bishop Watterson has helped me develop spiritually, academically and athletically," said wrestler Ben Kring. "Catholic teaching reminds me that I am a part of something bigger than myself. I am a representative of my school, my sport and, most importantly, my faith. This helps me to stay humble in victory and persevere in defeat."
"Every class I've taken has taught me to work hard in my studies," said baseball player Alex Gabel. "I've played baseball and basketball four years and football two years and every coach I'vd had has taught me to sharpen my skills as an athlete and as a man. Faith is a huge part of sports. You have to count on others, not be selfish and work through tough times. My faith has taught me to trust others and do everything to the best of my ability. When you have faith in God, you know that you can count on others to help you through tough times and you help others when they're going through tough times."
