All Things 8K River Day
WHAT:  This is the 5th year of the 8K River Day.  We will have a 1 mile fun run, a 5K and an 8K, along beautiful River Road.  Even if you're not a runner, it's a family-friendly morning that benefits Grace Episcopal Day School.  And it's FUN!  We expect over 750 registered runners so it's a big deal!  You don't have to be a Grace family to participate, so bring all of your friends and family!  All registered participants get a participation medal and a t-shirt.  8K finishers will have age group awards.

WHEN:  Saturday, February 17th, 8:00 AM, Mark your calendars!

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN:  Please register by clicking here.  Use the discount code GEDS18 for $5 off.  The code is valid through Friday, January 19th.  Students that register by January 19th will have their race shirts early and be able to wear them to school on specified days before the race!

DO YOU WANT TO BE AN EVENT SPONSOR?  We're still accepting event sponsors, so if you or your company are interested, please complete the sponsorship paperwork found here and submit to the front office.  We'd love to have you!

SPIRIT NIGHT:  Please join us for a fun race registration spirit night at Urban Bean on Thursday, January 18th, from 5-7 PM.  Urban Bean will be donating 20% of their sales to Grace Episcopal Day School.  Swing by, register for the race, grab some coffee or a meal, and support your favorite school!

Sad to Say Goodbye...
It is with a very heavy heart that we have to announce that Amy Logan will be unable to return to Grace because of a work visa issue.  It is a loss both for our students, but also our school community.

That puts us in a position to be seeking a new P.E. teacher.  If you know of anyone that might be qualified and interested, please have them email Mrs. Massey at smassey@geds.net.
In Praise of Mediocre Kids
by JULIE SURATT  from Boston Magazine

Not every child is destined to be an Olympic athlete, a music virtuoso, or a Rhodes Scholar...why can't we just accept that?

Last year, my son Finn came home from school and announced that he wanted to play the French horn. Naturally, I signed him up. A few weeks later, we got an email from the music director politely letting us know that Finn would benefit greatly from a tutor: The French horn is a tricky instrument, and it's difficult to match the correct tone of the instrument to the notes.  To finish reading the article, click here.
