The TRCS staff are back in action, class lists are being printed, and the smell of fresh school supplies is in the air!
This year, we've got some amazing new faces on both campuses. We're getting rid of the blended elementary classes, bringing additional teachers to the middle school program, and welcoming some great new electives at the high school.
Library: In the elementary school, we're welcoming Mrs. Mary Norton, our new library instructor! Mrs. Norton holds her BA in Education from University of Puget Sound, Tacoma, along with an endorsement as a School Librarian from University of Puget Sound.
A specialist in curriculum development, Mrs. Norton will be doing great projects with our students and further igniting their passion for the written word!
3rd grade: This year, 3
rd grade will be "team taught" by Mrs. Takko and our new hire, Mrs. Zenobia Scott! Mrs. Scott holds a BA in education from Washington State University in Vancouver. She has been in education for over 20 years and has substituted for our school numerous times. The reason she is excited to teach with TRCS is "just seeing how the students can worship so freely!" Mrs. Scott looks forward to sharing Christ with our students this year. This change will allow Mrs. Takko a little more time for her own daughter's last year in preschool, but it also gives our third grade students DOUBLE the teacher love and oversight.
4th and 5th grade - not blended!: We're so excited to welcome our new 5
th grade teacher, Miss Jillian Avalon! Mrs. Vegh will continue to teach the 4
th grade class in Room 20, and Miss Avalon will have the 5
th graders in Room 5. This is her first year as a full time teacher, after spending a couple of years substitute teaching in Kelso School District and student teaching at TRCS. She received a BA in Literature from Claremont McKenna College in Claremont, CA, and a Masters in Teaching from Liberty University in Roanoke, VA. She is excited to work in a school environment that is small and supportive for both the staff and students.
6th and 7th - new format!: We see a need for innovative program changes in middle school, and this year we're working at improving the format of these grades. Students will start the day in individual 6
th and 7
th grade homeroom classes (Room 21 & 22) with Bible. Mr. Wenzek will remain the middle school lead teacher, focusing on Math and Science. He will be joined by Mr. Royce (6
th grade Bible), Mrs. Moore (English Language Arts), Mrs. Nortness (7
th grade Math), and Mr. Heath Annett (Social Studies). We want our students to begin to get to know the high school teachers AND see what it's like to work with different teachers in the core subjects.
High School: We are so pleased to welcome Mr. Brice Richards, our new high school assistant principal. He'll be teaching some math classes as well as spearheading our new "Fish and Wildlife" elective. We've just received a large grant from the National Archery in Schools Program to outfit the archery portion of this elective. Mr. Heath Annett will be teaching Bible, Worship Arts and assisting the middle school. Mr. Annett holds his B.A. in Biblical Literature from Northwest University and his M.A. in Biblical Exegesis from Wheaton College. We're also adding Pastor Chris Toms (Father's House) as our 8
th grade Bible teacher. Pastor Chris is set to graduate with a Bachelor's in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute this fall. He has been working in youth ministry for over 10 years and is currently the Youth Pastor at Fathers House Church. His time in ministry began in 2005 with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). Pastor Chris has done mission work in India, New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
Our teachers and staff have been working hard all through the summer to ensure that your child is receiving the best education possible. We are grateful that you continue to partner with us in education! Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions or comments!
