"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity."
--1 Timothy 4:12, ILS theme verse for the 2017 2018 school year

Chinese Exchange Teachers Start at ILS Feb. 12
As shared in previous issues,   ILS has been invited to participate in an exciting educational exchange program in which the school will host two teachers from mainland China for three weeks beginning Feb. 12. They will be introduced to the congregation at worship services on Sun., Feb. 25. A dessert reception will follow.
Mrs. Laughlin is asking if any ILCS families would be interested in sharing an evening with the teachers: taking them to dinner, a movie, the zoo—any outing that would share some local culture. Or, invite them to a home cooked dinner and share family photos and stories that would help them understand US culture. Those interested in sharing an evening with the teachers are invited to contact Donna Laughlin via the school office at 630 406 0157 or .

Non-Public School Scholarship Applications
More than 24,000 families attempted to access the application last Wednesday, which caused the site to crash in the first hour. Repairs are currently being made.
Here is the latest information available from Empower Illinois:

Dear Parents & Schools,
We wanted to provide you an update about our tax credit scholarship application.

Over the past week we have identified the technology problems that caused our application to fail and are now in the process of solidifying solutions to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Demand for the Empower Illinois scholarship is significant, last week resulted in one of the largest day 1 launches in the country ever.

In addition to leading technology experts, we have brought together a diverse group of partners from the secular, Lutheran, Catholic, Muslim and Jewish school communities to oversee the work and to set the path forward. In addition to adding capacity, we are also working to lessen the drain on servers and make the application process less stressful.

As a result, we are still likely at least two weeks away from making the application available. An exact date has not been determined but we will provide at least one week notice before the application reopens.

It’s important to remember that this is a delay only and does not impact the availability of scholarships from us or other SGOs in the state. The program has received $45 million in pledges and we are all working hard to raise more for Illinois kids.

We know your children only get one chance at a great education and providing a fair opportunity for families to get an Empower Illinois scholarship is our highest priority.

Stay tuned to our  website  and  Facebook page  and we will continue to email those who have signed up via our website.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Please remember that families who plan to apply for ILS Need-Based Tuition Assistance must apply for an Invest in Kids Scholarship first .
