"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity."
--1 Timothy 4:12, ILS theme verse for the 2017 2018 school year

Wrap Up

The Immanuel Eagles Girls Varsity Volleyball team did Immanuel proud at the State tournament last past weekend—from the way they represented ILCS both on and off the court, to the heart they put into each and every match.
Christ Lutheran School, Peoria won for the FOURTH straight year! Denali Craig-Edwards (number 15 on Peoria) got the tournament MVP award. To those who watched her play—or were on the receiving end of her—this is not a surprise. Congratulations to Peoria! Centralia, who won the Consolation Championship. They are the last team the Eagles played.
This year's team went further than any previous Immanuel team, making it into the Consolation bracket. Final team statistics have not been posted yet, but the Eagles' expected final ranking is thirteenth. That’s in the top 6.5 percent of all Lutheran schools in the State of Illinois. A great ending to an amazing season.
Play Tag!

A reminder to coaches: please secure a volunteer parent or two to tag Lori St.Vincent when they post photos and/or details about Immanuel sporting events to their personal Facebook pages. This will ensure that all teams can share their good news on Immanuel's social media outlets and this newsletter.
Spirit Wear!

The Eagle Boosters have a special item in the new spirit wear order form that benefits the Investing in Discipleship campaign: all proceeds from the purchase of the stainless steel travel mug, which includes the Immanuel logo mark, will go toward the campaign.

Proceeds from all other items, including sweatshirts, t-shirts, scarves, hats, and backpacks, benefit the athletic booster fund, which supports ILS athletic teams and gym maintenance by helping to purchase supplies, jerseys, etc.

Click here for order forms . Checks should be made payable to Immanuel with “Boosters Spirit Wear” in the memo line.

Next Week in The Story
The Story is a compilation of the stories, poems, and teachings of the Bible condensed into accessible chapters. These chapters allow the reader to witness Bible events in the order in which they occurred. Each weekend at Immanuel during the 2017 2018 ministry year, a new chapter of The Story is introduced at worship. At Sunday School, Sunday adult Bible study, and during the week at Immanuel Lutheran School in religion classes and weekday Bible studies. Children and adults are delving into that same chapter; developing together as
Disciples of Christ. This book is available outside the church office for $5. A limited number of copies are available.
Chapter 9: The Faith of a Foreign Woman

JUDGES  2-4, 6-8, 13-16
The story of Israel’s judges closes with a line that could just as well be the opening for the story of Ruth: “In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit” (Judges 21:25). God’s chosen ones looked more like a reality show gone wrong than a holy beacon of hope. They had abandoned God’s plan (again) and had become moral misfits and spiritual adulterers. The light had gone out on God’s people. Then a foreigner stepped onto the stage and a candle of hope flickered once again.
