Coming Soon: The First Day[s] of School
Elementary and Middle School 

ILS welcomes K-8 students and their families back to school on Wed., Aug. 16. (Please note that School Supply Drop-Off has changed. See the article below.) These students may arrive as early as 7:45 AM on Aug. 16, but there is no morning care before that time on that day. Regular morning care begins at 7 AM on Thu., Aug. 17. 

Students in Grades 6 through 8 will go to their classrooms at 8 AM (start time: 8:07 AM) and 8:20 AM (start time: 8:30 AM) for K-5. Opening chapel begins at 9:30 AM and dismissal is at 11:30 AM. Parents are invited to enjoy coffee, refreshments, and an Information Fair in the Fellowship Hall between drop-off and the beginning of chapel and between the end of chapel and dismissal at 11:30 AM.


Preschool

Preschoolers are welcomed at Preschool Visiting Days on Mon., Aug. 21 (PS3 MWF, all PS4 classes) and Tue., Aug. 22 (PS3 TTh). Parents are requested to attend with their child on Visiting Day (one hour introduction class, which begins at the regular class start time0f 8:40 AM). Regular preschool classes begin on the student's next scheduled attendance day.

School Supply Drop Off


In an effort to make things more convenient for families, Immanuel is moving School Supply Drop-Off to the first day of school. Students may bring supplies to school on Wed., Aug. 16, and teachers will provide time first thing in the morning to get organized. Parents may park in the school parking lot and assist their child getting their supplies into school, if necessary. Parents are also invited to coffee and refreshments from 8:20-9:30 AM on the first day of school, and are also invited to  join students, faculty, and staff for opening chapel, which begins at 9:30 AM. Four-Day Fours and Preschool Enrichment Classes

 

ILS is keeping the four-day fours morning preschool and the afternoon Preschool Enrichment classes open for the 2017-2018 school year. There are still openings available in both classes, so please share this information with friends, family, and neighbors who might be interested. Part-Time Position Available


North Island Catering is seeking a dependable, trustworthy individual to serve hot lunch to Immmanuel students. Hours would be 11-12:30 PM on school days when lunch is being provided. Individuals interested in learning more are asked to call North Island Catering at 847 334 1344 to schedule an interview that will be held at Immanuel.

Immanuel’s Third Annual Operation Christmas Child Packing Party is coming in November. In addition to items collected each month and financial donations, quart and gallon size Ziploc® bags are also requested. A team is being assembled to help organize this outreach event. The 2017 goal is to can pack even more boxes than last year to benefit children across the world. In addition, Immanuel hopes to reach further into the surrounding communities for individuals and groups who would like to partner in this effort. Pr. Yaroslav Boychenko, from Ukraine, is sharing his inspriational message at Immanuel this weekend (Sat., Jul. 22 at 5:30 PM and Sun., Jul. 23 at 8, 9:30, and 10:45 AM). Pr. Boychenko was raised atheist but came to faith through a surprising set of coincidences; although Immanuel prefers to call these God Sightings. On Tue., Jul. 25, Pr. Boychenko will perform classical piano pieces, including selections by J. S. Bach that were instrumental in his coming to faith, as well as traditional Ukranian and Polish folk tunes.

The last two sessions of Immanuel's new Summer Enrichment program are next week. The students have LOVED Summer Enrichment! These classes are designed for children age three and four, K-Grade 2, and Grades 3-4. Immanuel will celebrate t he ministry of Pr. Bill Beckmann with a reception after Saturday worship. Please join the celebration of Pr. Beckmann's 59 years in ministry; 22 of which were spent at ILCS. Please bring a card or other written message thanking him for his service to Immanuel. Those unable to attend are invited to share a greeting by bringing or mailing cards or letters to Pr. Christopher Patterson Memorial Motorcycle Ride 
Sat., Aug. 5, 8-3 PM, Batavia VFW
Everyone is invited to join the ride—no bike, no problem, cars are welcome! A hot breakfast is being provided free of charge for riders by the Batavia VFW and the Batavia Vikings. Entertainment will be provided by the band Identity Crises, and lunch by award winning VeteransQ will be available for purchase, as will several items up for auction. Proceeds are being donated to the Chris Patterson Memorial Foundation, Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, and Immanuel Lutheran Church and School. Register here.
 
The ride will pass Immanuel’s campus between 11:30 AM and noon on Aug. 5. Members and friends are invited to gather on the ILCS lawn near Hart Road to wave flags and cheer for the riders in Christopher’s memory. Flags will be available at Immanuel or bring one from home. A fitting tribute to Immanuel’s special hero would be a lawn full of supporters—please consider participating!
Sun., Aug. 20
Kick off the new school year in celebration with the Batavia community at the annual Back-to-School Community Picnic! The picnic is sponsored by Immanuel and held at the Peg Bond Center on the Batavia Riverwalk. The day begins with contemporary worship outdoors at the PBC at 11 AM. Beginning at 12 PM enjoy a free hot dog lunch and ice water, bounce houses, a prayer tent, face painting, games and prizes, a Kids' Fun Run, and finally, the Back-to-School Blessing! 
Thu., Aug. 24
Back-to-School Night at Kimmer’s Ice Cream (1 W. Illinois St., St. Charles) is another great way to celebrate the beginning of a new school year! Immanuel is hosting Kimmer’s Kares Night on Aug. 24, 6-9 PM. Kimmer's will donate 10 percent of all proceeds from sales accompanied by the fundraiser slip (slips will be available beginning the first day of school). Proceeds from Kimmers Kares are designated for the Immanuel Tuition Assistance Fund, which assists students and their families in need. Please support this important effort by stopping in for some yummy ice cream!
The annual school supply collection for Batavia students in need is winding down, but many supplies are still needed. Please prayerfully consider how to be part of this effort to support the school needs of underprivileged students in Batavia District 101. The major need is thick or thin Crayola Washable Markers. At the end of July, the Batavia High School marching band will begin stuffing donated backpacks with the necessary supplies for students in need. The backpacks will be distributed by CHIP IN Batavia. The Learning Tree is located across from the church office. Take a leaf (or two) and drop donations in the basket provided. Thank you!
