December Calendar

Inclement Weather Policy
In the event of inclement weather, we will follow the decision made of the local school district in each area. If your school district is on a delay , Early Childhood CARES morning classes will be canceled in your area. Afternoon classes will run as scheduled. If school is canceled in your district, Early Childhood CARES classes will be canceled. Contact your service coordinator if you are in need of additional information.
Family Swim Night at Tamarack Pool

When: Friday December 14, from 6-7:45 pm
Where: Tamarack Pool, 3575 Donald St., Eugene
Details: Free family swim for Early Childhood CARES families. Reusable cloth diapers are required for all children who are not potty-trained. Disposable diapers are not allowed in the pool. Space is limited to the first 65 swimmers who arrive.
 
Tamarack Pool is a 92-degree warm saltwater therapeutic pool. Therapeutic benefits include:
·      Improved sleep
·      Reduced anxiety
·      Reduced pain
·      Increased muscle strength, tone, flexibility, and mobility
  On December 8 , we will have a parent chat on Using Sign Language to Promote Language Development . This chat will be presented by speech language pathologist Cory Byers and early intervention specialist Cassandra Trout, and will be located at our main office in Eugene, 1500 W. 12th Ave.

Do you have a child who will be entering kindergarten in fall 2019? If so, our January 26 Transition to Kindergarten chat is for you. This will be presented by FACT Oregon and is also located at 1500 W. 12th Ave.

All parent chats meet on Saturday mornings from 10 am - noon. Free childcare, coffee, and light refreshments will be available. Parents need to register even if childcare is not needed. GRAND OPENING this Saturday, December 1

When: 2-5 pm
Where: 245 W. 8th Ave., Eugene. Free parking @ North Broadway parking lot.
What: Inclusive art center with classes for kids and adults with emphasis on kids with special needs. Founded by a parent of an Early Childhood CARES alum!
Paid Research Study Opportunity

Year-End Giving

Consider giving back to Early Childhood CARES for your year-end giving. You can donate to us through the University of Oregon Foundation . Write "Early Childhood CARES" in the 'additional gift instructions' box and your donation will go directly to supporting our program. In the past donations have been used for:
  • Assistance to families in need.
  • Trainings and workshops for parents.
  • Specialized equipment.
  • Family swim nights at Tamarack pool.

Pearl Buck Parenting Class

Pearl Buck Center is offering a free parenting class this winter for parents in Lane County who have cognitive limitations. Contact Linzy Jones 541-484-4666 ext. 5150.
Lowell's historic covered bridge will light up for the holiday season.

  • Creswell Tree Lighting and Parade, December 1, 8 am - 7 pm, Creswell. Breakfast with Santa, seasonal market, tree lighting and parade. Free.
  • Lowell Covered Bridge Tree Lighting & Boat Parade, December 1, 5 pm-6:30 pm, Lowell Covered Bridge. Tree lighting, live music, caroling, lighted boar parade, and Santa. Free.
  • Springfield Christmas Parade, December 1, 1 pm, Free.
  • Giant Menorah Lighting and Celebration, December 3, 4:30-6:30 pm, Valley River Center. Latkes, donuts, crafts, and live entertainment for kids. Free.
  • Winter Solstice Celebration, December 14, 5-8 pm, UO Museum of Natural and Cultural History. Live performances, crafts, face painting, science activities. Free admission with non-perishable food donation for FOOD for Lane County.
  • Holiday Crafts and Sensory Santa Event, December 15, 11 am - 3 pm, The Arc Lane County, 4181 E. St., Springfield.
  • Eugene Holiday Market, Saturdays and Sundays beginning November 17, 10 am-6 pm, Lane Events Center. Handcrafted gifts, international food court, live music and entertainment. Free admission.

Early Childhood CARES Resource Guide 2018-2019 

Our annual Resource Guide lists relevant community resources for young families including library storytimes, play groups, childcare options, and more. If you would like a copy of the 2018-2019 Resource Guide — updated in August 2018 — visit our website  to download it. Free Screening for Siblings

Parents of children receiving services from Early Childhood CARES may request a free developmental screening for younger siblings. Simply call 541-346-2578. Spanish speaking families can call 541-346-0742.


Imagination Library

Families who live in the Eugene library district, you can sign your child up to receive a free book by mail every month from birth until he or she turns 5. Details available at the Eugene Public Library website here.
 
About Us:
Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education to infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children in Lane County. Services are individually designed to address the needs of the young child with developmental delays or disabilities. All services are free of charge to eligible children.
