Self-Care Strategy of the Month: Eat your Breakfast

Skipping breakfast can be all too easy for a busy parent who is rushing kids out the door to school in the morning. But missing breakfast is not a good way to start out your day, from a health point of view. Here are some of the benefits of eating a healthy breakfast, according to the website symptomfind.com.
  • Energy boost to start the day
  • Helps you focus
  • Boosts your metabolism and prevents your body from going into fat-storing starvation mode
  • Prevents overeating at later meals

Many breakfast foods are highly nutritious, such as eggs, whole grains, and fruit. One quick and easy way to start your day off with whole grains is by making overnight oatmeal. Combine 1/3 cup of milk, 1/4 cup uncooked rolled oats, 1/4 cup yogurt, 2 tsp. honey or maple syrup, 1 tsp. cinnamon, and 1/4 cup of fruit. Some people also like to add chia seeds or nut butter for additional protein. Cover and refrigerate overnight, then it will be ready to eat in the morning.
