On June 8 we will have our final Parent Chat of the 2018-19 school year, on Positive Behavior Strategies, with Natalya McComas. Natalya is a Behavior Specialist with our program.

All parent chats meet on Saturday mornings from 10 am - noon at our main office, 1500 W. 12th Ave., Eugene. Coffee and light refreshments will be available. Our childcare is now full for this event, but we do have a wait list. Parents need to register for the chat even if childcare is not needed. Register by calling our front desk at 541-346-2578, texting 541-393-7200, or by email to [email protected].
Annual Family Survey

Our annual Family Survey is in the mail. We value your input and use it to improve our services. Please return your survey by June 7 for a chance to win a $50 Fred Meyer gift card. If you did not receive the survey, you can request another copy by calling our front desk at 541-346-2578.
Summer Positive Behavior Group

This is a five-week group starting
Tuesday, July 9, 2019
5:30-7:30 pm
Future meetings will be held on the following Tuesdays:
July 16 and 23
August 6 and 13

Early Childhood CARES Main Office

The group is designed to help parents decrease negative behaviors in preschool children and is based upon The Incredible Years, developed by Dr. Carolyn Webster-Stratton with the University of Washington.

Leading the group will be Ursula Crawford, Parent Outreach Coodinator, and Jo Ellyn Peterson, Early Childhood Special Educator with Early Childhood CARES.

Childcare will be provided each week by Early Childhood CARES staff. A light dinner will also be provided each week. Pre-registration is required. Parents need to register for the group even if childcare is not needed.

Join the FREE Kids in Transition to School (KITS) program this summer.
During the KITS program your kids will:
  • Learn to make friends & cooperate
  • Build beginning reading & counting skills
You will:
  • Reduce parenting stress
  • Learn how to connect with your child's school

Sensory Storytime at Eugene Public Library

Sensory Storytime will be held at 3 pm on Saturdays in June at the Downtown Eugene Public Library! Sensory Storytime is a 30-40 minute program including 15-20 minutes of songs, stories and movement followed by time to explore interactive materials and browse selected books available for check out. Sensory Storytime is designed for children ages 2-8 that experience sensory needs, have developmental delays, or are on the autism spectrum. 
 
Registration starts Sunday May 26th for Sensory Storytime Saturday June 1st. Registration for each following Saturday June 8, 15, 22 and 29 will open the Sunday before that date. To register, please call or stop by the Downtown Public Library’s Youth Services desk @ 541-682-8316 during open hours. The Downtown Library is open Monday-Thursdays 10 am-8 pm and Friday-Sunday 10 am-6 pm.

Summer Fun

Summer can bring big changes in routine for many families. If you're looking for kid-friendly activities this summer, read on for some ideas.

Free lunch program for kids with FOOD for Lane County. For the most recently updated list of times and locations, visit FOOD for Lane County's website.

Fun for All , located in select Eugene parks. Fun for All provides free recreation opportunities for children ages 0-17 (children under 10 must be accompanied by a responsible party age 15+). July 1 - August 23. FOOD for Lane County will be serving free lunch from noon-1 at all sites except Awbrey Park.

  • Petersen Barn Park (10 am - 5 pm)
  • State Street Park (11 am - 4 pm)

Artie the Imagination Bus will be offering free art classes at select Eugene and Springfield parks from June 24 - August 23. Visit the website to view Artie's schedule.

Willamalane's summer playground program offers free park supervision for kids entering grades 1-5 from June 24 through August 15, Monday-Thursday. Located at select Willamalane parks.

Another great Willamalane program is the 1Pass , a $55 summer pass for kids ages 18 and under which offers free bus fare plus free entrance to 15 local activities throughout the season. Available for purchase at Bob Keefer Center, Willamalane Park Swim Center, and Splash!

Swimming lessons are available through many local parks and recreation districts. Check out the links below if you live in the Eugene-Springfield area.

The Eugene and Springfield libraries both offer a free book for every child and fun events planned throughout the summer to promote summer reading. Visit your library or its website to find out more.






Arc Families Connected Events

Arc Families Connected offers lots of events for families of children with disabilities, including Get Air playdates every Wednesday from 5-6 pm. To see what other events they have planned, visit their Facebook page here .

Free Screening for Siblings
Parents of children receiving services from Early Childhood CARES may request a free developmental screening for younger siblings. Simply call 541-346-2578. Spanish speaking families can call 541-346-0742.

Imagination Library
Families who live in the Eugene library district, you can sign your child up to receive a free book by mail every month from birth until he or she turns 5. Details available at the Eugene Public Library website here.

Littles Play Time @ Peterson Barn Community Center

Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education to infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children in Lane County.
