Bring the whole family and enjoy a morning of indoor and outdoor carnival games! Kids enjoy crafts, games and music in a safe environment. Parents can learn about community resources and fun summer activities for children. In collaboration with Eugene Public Library, Food for Lane County, Eugene Science Center, Parenting Now, Early Education Program, Lane County Community Health, and Refuge Music Therapy.

What: Developmental psychologist Dr. Ross Thompson will present information about babies' rapidly developing brains.

When: Tuesday May 22, 6-8 pm

Where: Eugene School District 4J Auditorium, 200 N. Monroe St., Eugene

Our speech team will be leading a chat on Helping my Child Become a Successful Communicator on May 5 from 10-noon.

Coffee, and light refreshments will be available. Parents need to register even if childcare is not needed. Childcare is limited and may be full by the time you read this; call to see if there is space available. Statutory Oversight Committee

Want to find a way to become involved in Early Childhood CARES and show your support for early intervention/early childhood special education? The Statutory Oversight Committee (SOC) is comprised of service providers, community agencies, school district personnel and Early Childhood CARES families meeting to discuss fiscal issues and the delivery of services to children and their families. Meetings are quarterly from 9-10:30 a.m. at Early Childhood CARES, 1500 W. 12th Ave. in Eugene.

Childcare is not provided for SOC meetings, however, parents may request a $25 stipend which may be used to pay for self-arranged childcare.

Upcoming meetings are schedule for:
  • May 9, 9-10:30 a.m.
  • July 18, 9-10:30 a.m.

We don’t have any age cut-offs; if parents identify this as an appropriate group for their needs, they are welcome!
 
This is a safe and friendly meetup for parents experiencing this uniquely difficult adjustment to share and ease the feelings of isolation. Our groups provide trauma-informed facilitation for appropriate support and resources.

We’ll have:
  • Healthy snacks
  • Floor-time for baby
  • Sensory-sensitive, confidential space

We won’t have childcare for older children.

Portland Children's Museum Discounts

Hoping for your own close encounters of the polar bear kind? Oregon Zoo is offering discounted admission for Oregon and Washington individuals and families who qualify for a variety of income assistance programs
  
Just bring your Oregon or Washington photo ID and any documentation showing that you participate in any of the following programs, and you are eligible to buy up to 6 tickets for $5 each. If you ride MAX to the zoo and show proof of fare (monthly pass, individual tickets or annual pass), you'll receive an additional $1.50 off admission for each person.

The Portland Children's Museum (across from the zoo), also gives a discount for a family receiving some form of public income-related assistance.
 
Families who are receiving some form of public income-related assistance (such as WIC, free or reduced school lunch, Section 8, TANF, Section 8/Public Housing, Medicaid, or Low Income Energy Assistance) are eligible for $1 admission per person, valid for up to 5 people. Please be prepared to show proof of eligibility at the Box Office upon your visit to the Museum. There is no distance restriction to qualify for the Access Admission.

Our annual Resource Guide lists relevant community resources for young families including library storytimes, play groups, childcare options, and more. Free Screening for Siblings

Imagination Library

Families who live in the Eugene library district, you can sign your child up to receive a free book by mail every month from birth until he or she turns 5. Details available at the Eugene Public Library website here.

Unexpected Journeys

Spanish speaking families can call 541-346-0742. This support group, sponsored by WellMama, meets on the second and fourth Thursday of the month from 4-5 pm at 1500 W. 12th Ave., in Eugene. The group is for families of infants with health or developmental concerns, or who have spent time in the NICU. Early Childhood CARES provides early intervention and early childhood special education to infants, toddlers, and preschool-age children in Lane County. Services are individually designed to address the needs of the young child with developmental delays or disabilities. All services are free of charge to eligible children.
