Gemini 7th Grade Girls Basketball Team Brings Home Tournament Title 
 
Nothing but net! On January 26, Gemini's 7th Grade Girls Basketball Team won its final game against Deerfield's Shepard Middle School and ended the season by clinching the Central Suburban Middle School Conference Tournament Title, beating out eight other teams for the honor.

In fact, Gemini's 13-member team is celebrating a double victory: its 10-2 record had already placed it at the top of one of the CSMS C's two divisions "These girls are amazing athletes," noted Coach Erin Bauler, one of Gemini's Physical Education teachers, "and we're really excited about this win! It's the first time this team has won both the conference and tournament titles in quite a while."

Apollo 3rd graders and 3rd/4th dual language classes had a visit from the ultimate VIP: Benjamin Franklin! "Ben stopped by to reminisce about his political life, writings, and scientific improvements. 

Gemini girls traveled to Oakton Community College on January 13 for Futures Unlimited, a day of STEM learning. More than 40 students heard from women leaders and participated in a wide range of STEM labs.
 
Mark Twain  students and families gathered on January 26 at Cici's Pizza in Niles to raise funds for the PTO. The event was part of the PTO's "Restaurant of the Month" program; next up: McTeacher's Night on February 22! 

Melzer welcomed children's writer  Aaron Reynolds on February 2! The author of Creepy Carrots met with all grades and taught students how a great idea becomes a book with a fun role-playing game. 
 
Nelson welcomed 300 students and their families for its Family Fun Night on January 26. Participants enjoyed pizza, arts and crafts, and literacy activities! Raffle winners received books in English and Spanish. 

Stevenson families turned out in force for a January 24 field trip to PetSmart in Niles. More than 70  participants interacted with pets, took a tour, got tips on pet care, and learned fun animal facts.

Washington is still seeking two Crossing Guards to help out at Golf and Washington Roads. The positions are actually hired and paid by the Cook County Sheriff's Office; find out more about this great part-time job!
