Barb Golik to Lead First Steps Preschool

At its July 13 meeting, the East Maine School District 63 Board of Education approved the appointment of Barb Golik to lead the District's First Steps Preschool.

As Assistant Principal for Preschool, she will manage both D63 preschool sites - at Melzer (Morton Grove) and Apollo (Des Plaines) Schools.
Golik began her career as an at-risk preschool teacher at the Early Childhood Development Enrichment Center in Arlington Heights, moving on to Mount Prospect District 57's Westbrook School as a 1st grade teacher and then as a literacy specialist before becoming Interim Principal in 2015.
She received her B.S. in early childhood education from Illinois State University and two M.A.s - in reading education and educational leadership - from Concordia University.
District 63's First Steps Preschool offers high-quality programming to more than 200 children annually. In addition to a fee-based Community Preschool, First Steps also offers special programs to qualifying at-risk and special needs students at no charge through grants provided by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Summer @ D63
While our students and their families enjoy the sun and fun of summer, D63 remains busy. Summer is a great time to tackle projects at our buildings -- and of course we still welcome students for a range of summer programs!

Registration for our fall TLC After School Program is now open! Don't wait -- reserve your slot now! And check out our new TLC options: a special Homework Club and Early Dismissal Day Care for elementary students.

Our Summer Learning Program will wrap up on July 29 after its fun-filled final weeks. Today they headed off to the Museum of Science & Industry!

D63's Ready, Set, Kindergarten; ESL; and Extended Year summer programs kicked off on July 11. The halls of Apollo and Melzer are filled with children learning, playing, and having fun!
