State Passes Budget for Public Schools

On June 30, state legislators and Governor Rauner reached a compromise on a stopgap budget that, among other things, will fund public schools throughout the state - including District 63.

The new deal fully funds General State Aid (the conduit through which public schools receive state dollars) for the first time in seven years, as well as providing $250 million for a statewide school equity grant. The budget also provides $75 million in additional funding for early childhood education.

That's good news for Illinois families and students -- and for D63. Although only 10 percent of our budget comprises GSA dollars, that does represent almost $5 million in annual funding for the District.

"Although we remain concerned about the long-term impact of the gridlock in Springfield, we're relieved that the State has demonstrated a strong commitment to public education, enabling us to remain on sound financial footing," noted Dr. Scott Clay, Superintendent. "And we're grateful to all of our D63 families who contacted their elected officials on this issue."
Summer @ D63

While our students and their families enjoy the sun and fun of summer, D63 remains busy. Summer is a great time to tackle projects at our buildings -- and of course we still welcome students for a range of summer programs!

Our Summer Learning Program continues to provide fun activities for more than 125 participants each week. Recent field trips have been to Navy Pier, Millennium Park, and the Lincoln Park Zoo!

The D63 Summer Music Program wrapped up another successful year today, bidding farewell to its 198 participants after a final concert yesterday.

Building improvements continue:  new  windows  are in place at the District Office carpeting installation  is underway at Washington and will begin at Twain next week.

Our new principals Dr. RenĂ© Carranza (Gemini), Jennifer Pacheco (Melzer), and Kate Anderson (Washington) have moved into their respective offices and are settling in, unpacking boxes, and getting ready to welcome all of our students back next month!
