Eat More - Lose More!  It Works!

 
As part of your renewed interest in fitness, are you also looking to slim down, lose some weight? 

Well, rather than worrying about eating less, try focusing on eating more of the foods that actually aid in fat loss.  No, these fat loss foods don't have magical fat burning properties. The reason they're so good at helping with fat loss is because they do the following three things: 

 

1.     Control hunger. They make you full quickly and keep you full for longer because they're digested slowly.

 

2.     Raise energy. Because they're digested slowly their nutrients are absorbed in a slow steady fashion. This gives a steady supply of fuel and raises energy levels.

 

3.     Reduce cravings. Another benefit of the slow digestion, is balanced blood sugar. This along with the sustained energy and reduced hunger means cravings are also lowered.

 

To help you get started, try following the steps below:
  • Start every morning with a large glass of water with lemon and ginger added.  This aids in removing toxins from the body (that the body was doing all night).
  • Drink a greens based smoothie or juice.  Make your own juice as most store bought products have added ingredients like chemicals, preservatives and sugar that you don't need.  Sometimes this greens smoothie IS my breakfast as I'm rushing out the door!  Some mornings I'm up at 4:30 AM and I know my body can't tolerate anything else but a greens smoothie. (Visit our Facebook page and our Blog for some good greens smoothie recipes).
  • At breakfast switch your cereals (high in starchy carbs, chemicals, preservatives and sugar) for either eggs, a protein shake (use natural protein such as almond mylk, hemp hearts/seeds or chia seeds) or a leftover protein and vegetable from the night before.
  • At lunch, trade out your sandwich and replace it with a soup or salad that's mostly vegetables and/or protein.
  • For snacks, lose the crackers, popcorn, and candy.  Replace them with fruits, vegetables, animal protein, protein shakes (again, made with close to natural source vegetarian proteins) or high protein dairy foods (plain Greek yogurt, European cheese, etc).
  • Replace all beverages with water, unsweetened tea, or unsweetened coffee; and,
  • Make sure you're eating frequent enough according to your needs.

All these tips are a start to overall fat loss and feeling energetic.  By adding an exercise component to this (and adjusting your food/fuel accordingly), you'll be well on your way to overall health, fitness and fat loss as well as reducing your chances of disease and illness.
