A New Voice for TOYconomy's Blog | |
Meet Sarah Jane...
A writer and educator. Sarah Jane will be contributing to TOYconomy's blog with informative articles regarding child development and education.
Sarah Jane earned her Montessori diploma in 2006 from the Australian Institute of Montessori Studies and has since then taught in several Montessori schools around Singapore. From Montessori Directress to Head Montessori teacher, Sarah's undying interest in child development enabled her to expand her love for teaching through her writing. Her enthusiasm for creative and expressive writing became a handy tool when teaching children between the ages of 0 to 12. Together with her passion for teaching, she has written activity books and worksheets for the schools she has worked with, as well as content in ESL (English as a second language) books for adults. Sarah Jane's passion for writing from an early age and her love for words formerly as a hobby has now transformed into a profession in the international realm of writers and editors.
Throughout her school days and after graduation, Sarah spent a lot of time building her portfolio, from the writing of reviews for books, movies and websites to giving private home tutoring during her free time. Sarah strongly believes that from a very young age, imagination fuels creativity and that can only be achieved in a prepared environment, indirectly shaping and moulding characters and personalities in children. This is evident in the classrooms where Sarah aspires and mentors young children in creative and thinking processes through the theories of Montessori. Through many years of observational work, she has been influential in setting up learning opportunities for kids between the ages of 3 to 6 and has guided and supported many parents through their little one's most delicate years.
Sarah's favorite and often utilized quote from her inspiration and role model, Dr Maria Montessori, is "The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, "The children are now working as if I did not exist." "
And when asked to summarize about the work she does best;
"It's all just a learning and growing process, between the child and the teacher."
Sarah's first article to be posted on TOYconomy's blog will discuss one of the 'Sensitive Periods' in a child's development: Movement from birth through 4 years of age. The article will look at how the environment and materials can help shape the development of a child's gross and fine motor skills. |
