South San Francisco Scavengers

The City of South San Francisco salutes the South San Francisco Scavenger Company as an innovator and leader in alternative fuel technology. The company announced that their new eight million dollar anaerobic digestion facility (AD facility) is operational and it has initiated weekly green cart collection with residents in South San Francisco, Brisbane and Millbrae. The AD facility is revolutionary since it is the first such facility to be constructed in the United States and has the capacity to provide CGN fuel to 17 collection trucks. Since October, the company has turned on the power at the facility and introduced the beneficial bacteria to the digester system, which comprises food scraps and yard trimmings. The food scraps and food-soiled paper serve as feedstock for their new AD facility that turns compostable materials into carbon negative, renewable transportation fuel.
