Dalton's Engineered Floors Working on Largest Carpet Plant in the World

Engineered Floors, the Dalton, Ga.-based carpet maker, will soon have the second largest building in Georgia when it's finished expanding a plant to 2 million square feet.

Only the World Congress Center in Atlanta will be larger, said James Lesslie, executive vice president of sales and marketing for the company founded six years ago by carpet manufacturing pioneer Bob Shaw.

J+J Flooring Group Re-certified as a ZWL Manufacturing

J+J Flooring Group has been re-certified as a Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWL) manufacturer by GreenCircle Certified.

By diverting 5.2 million pounds (2,600 tons) of waste from landfill, J+J achieved the equivalent of producing enough electricity to power 1,492 homes for a month or reducing the need of 109,200 gallons of fuel oil

Carpet Giant Shaw Industries to Buy US Floors

Shaw Industries Group, Inc., the world's biggest carpet manufacturer, is buying USFloors to help expand its luxury vinyl tile and hard surfaces business.

The Dalton, Ga.-based Shaw announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to purchase USFloors for an undisclosed amount., USFloors is a leading innovator and marketer of wood-plastic composite (WPC) flooring in the LVT category, as well as cork, bamboo and hardwood products.

Plans Made for Site of Old Lee Printing Building

The site of the old Lee Printing building in downtown Dalton could be the location for future performances, art exhibits and other community events.

"It's a community project," she said. "It's several groups working together -- the Downtown Dalton Development Authority, the Creative Arts Guild, the Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia."
