Expert on College Application
Leads Program on July 15

Bestselling author and former Princeton professor Elizabeth Benedict started Don't Sweat the Essay  to help high school students with their college application essays. Now she now advises families on the entire process.

She'll answer your questions -- and calm some of your fears -- in her free lecture/Q&A,  10 Tips For Staying Sane While Applying to College, here at the library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15.
Book Group Meets July 22

The Edgartown Library book group meets at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, to discuss Chimanda Ngozi Adichie's novel, Americanah. It's "part love story, part social critique, and one of the best [novels] you'll read this year," writes the Los Angeles Times. "Characters are richly drawn. . . . Adichie digs in deeply, finding a way to make them fresh."

We have copies of the book available at the library desk, and gatherings of the  group are open to all. The book club, led by Director, Jill Dugas Hughes, meets monthly.
July in the Children's Room

The Children's Room has a busy calendar of events this summer, built around the state's summer reading theme, Every Hero Has a Story. All through July, we'll be holding Sunset Stories on the front lawn of the library every Wednesday at 7 p.m. Every Wednesday morning in July and August, we're presenting a 10:30 a.m. Story Hour at the Edgartown School playground -- or at the library if the weather is bad.  And every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in July and August, we'll have staff visiting the Boys and Girls Club to hear their summer reading reports.

All this summer, if you read a children's book and report on it to a librarian, you can earn prizes and a T-shirt (if you read at least ten). We even have a special web page where you can report on your summer reading, online.
