Advances at New Library
Here's a view of the south entrance to the new Edgartown Library, now nearing completion on the West Tisbury Road, next to the Edgartown Elementary School. At left is the library's program room, and at right is the children's wing. In the center, two stories tall, is the main library building.

As you can see in the photo below, which was taken recently on the second floor of the main building, the clerestory windows atop the roofs allow natural light to pour into the building.

Hot Docs Film Series
Continues in November

Weekly movies at 7 p.m. on Tuesday nights are back at the Edgartown Library, and our first series of this new season is entitled Hot Docs, featuring powerful and engaging examples of the documentary film genre. Please remember, this is an adult program.

Here's the November lineup:

11/3 Muscle Shoals (2013)
As a history of a legendary recording studio, Greg Camalier's 2013 movie is more a collection of cool people telling great stories than it is a structured documentary, but that turns out to be just dandy.

11/10  The Salt of the Earth (2015)
Director Wim Wenders teams with Juliano Ribeiro Salgado to tell the story of photographer SebastiĆ£o Salgado, whose life and art seem inseparable as he witnesses and documents major events in human history.

11/17 The Wolf Pack (2015)
This undeniably fascinating urban fable, directed by Crystal Moselle, unfolds a story of the human spirit's ability to survive (and thrive) despite aberrant circumstances.

11/24 Maidentrip (2013)
We get a topside seat for an audacious adventure as filmmaker Jillian Schlesinger follows a defiant young teen in pursuit of her dream to sail solo around the world.
Library Book Club Is Back,
Meeting Thursday, Nov. 19

The Edgartown Library Book Club is resuming its monthly schedule after a short break -- now led by published author (and brand-new Edgartown resident) Jean Stone.
This month's book, scheduled for discussion at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19, is Alice Hoffman's novel, The Marriage of Opposites. From the bestselling   author of The Dovekeepers and The Museum of Extraordinary Things, it's a forbidden love story set on the tropical island of St. Thomas about the extraordinary woman who gave birth to painter Camille Pissarro -- the Father of Impressionism.

For a copy of the book to read, visit us at the library front desk. All are welcome to join the conversation.

Opera Club Presents  Musical Matinee
On  Sunday, Nov. 8

The library's Opera Club meets at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, to enjoy a filmed performance of Gaetano Donizetti's opera, Maria Stuarda.

The great mezzo-soprano, Joyce DiDonato, sings the title role in the Metropolitan Opera's first ever production of this opera. The powerful cast includes Elza van den Heever as Queen Elizabeth I and tenor Matthew Polenzani as the Earl of Leicester. Maurizio Benini conducts.

Filmed live at the Met in 2013 and performed in Italian with English subtitles, the opera runs 3 hours including a 15-minute intermission. All adults are welcome (please enter by the library's side door).
