Mysteries of the Deep

In this lesson, students will use math and scale drawing of the submarine as a model from which to draw a full-scale version of the Confederate submarine, the CSS H.L. Hunley.

Songs of War
Grade Range: 6-8, 9-12
In this lesson plan from PBS Teachers, students will explore the relationship between real-life events and popular music, focusing on a song written during the U.S.-Mexican War. They will then have the opportunity to write a song from a new perspective and apply this to modern-day conflicts.

Grade Range: 6-8, 9-12
A diverse group of Korean War Veterans recall their memories, experiences, and emotions of the war. The program goes beyond the battle stories to recount the aftermath of the war and serves as a reminder that no war, nor the people involved in it, can or should truly be forgotten.

Life on the Prairie

Grade Range: 3-6

Visit with a pioneer woman (a naturalist from the Polk County Conservation Board) as she shares how the Iowa landscape has changed and what effects it is having on Iowa wildlife. She will also explain what life was like on the prairie during the 19th century.

Legislative Process in Iowa: Keeping Pace with State Government

Grade Range: 9-12

This ICN presentation, sponsored by the Iowa General Assembly and IPTV, provides an in-depth look into the legislative process and allows students to experience the process in new ways. On the morning of the presentation, an Iowa Capitol Tour Guide will travel to each school and conduct a classroom orientation to learn more about the legislative process.
