Nominating Committee Report
Presented at the Congregational Meeting - Sunday, March 13, 2016
The nominees in this report will be presented by the Nominating Committee on Sunday, March 13 to serve the congregation of Chapel in the Pines for a three-year term beginning in May 2016.
Elizabeth began attending CITP in 2012 and joined the congregation as a new member early 2015. Elizabeth is a graduate of Davidson College and works as a nurse manager for UNC Hospitals. Elizabeth is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and she sings with the Voices Choir, which is heading to Spain this summer. Her parents, Bill and Mickey dePrater, both ordained ministers in the PC(USA) who are also actively involved in the life and ministry of Chapel in the Pines. Elizabeth loves spending time with her family and friends.
Gail joined Chapel in the Pines in the fall of 2014, but had worshiped with us when the church gathered in a restaurant, a good number of years ago. Gail and her husband, John, retired to the Outer Banks of North Carolina from New Jersey and visited their children living in Chapel Hill. That is when they first found Chapel in the Pines. Gail's volunteer work at Presbyterian churches in the Outer Banks NC and in New Jersey includes serving on a nursery school board, Worship & Music Committee, and as Treasurer and Circle Leader of the Presbyterian Women organization. As a life-long Presbyterian, Gail is well versed in service and has supplied meals to home-bound members, organized memorial service receptions, and volunteered at a local food pantry.
Garrett has been a high school social studies educator for 14 years and is currently employed in the Wake Co. School System. He has been a member of Chapel in the Pines since June 2014. He is an active member of the Chapel in the Pines choir. With an abiding interest in the performing arts, Garrett has also been an integral part of the Strobilus Arts Performance Series team. Garrett is originally from Kinston, NC. "It will be an honor to serve Christ, the members of Chapel in the Pines, and the greater community."
Terry came to Chapel Hill to attend UNC in 1981 and has been here ever since. He is in his 23rd year at Progressive Computer Systems as Support Services Manager. Before joining Chapel in the Pines in May 2012, Terry was an active member of University Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee and usher coordinator. Terry is an active presence around Chapel in the Pines, and is just completing a three-year term as an ordained deacon among us. Terry was born in Nashville, TN, but grew up in Hickory, NC. He and his wife, Beverly Rudolph, are raising two sons, Devin and Jackson.
Karen moved from Indiana to North Carolina to attend UNC where she completed her MA in Musicology. Karen has worked as Coordinator of the Computer Literacy Program and computer systems at the Durham Literacy Center through AmeriCorps. She currently works as a researcher for a digital humanities project while seeking more permanent employment. She still enjoys over-analyzing music and playing the French horn. Before joining CITP in February 2010, she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Muncie, IN where she assisted with teaching Sunday school. At Chapel in the Pines, Karen has been actively involved with the Children and Youth Ministries, Building and Grounds, and the Strategic Planning Committees. She has also volunteered at the Take and Eat Food Pantry and worked with the first Capital Campaign Committee. Karen and her husband, Steve Mann, live in Durham with their two cats.
Maggie is a PhD student in the Carolina-Duke Graduate Program in German Studies. She currently teaches introductory German at Duke University. Maggie is originally from Colorado, and joined CITPines in August 2015. She learned to play the handbells as a child and is joyfully ringing as part of the Chapel in the Pines bell choir.
