Letter from our Executive Director
|
Hello friends of Elderhaus! It has been many years since we distributed a newsletter, but with email, we can now do it much more cost effectively and reach a wider audience than we were able to in the past. So welcome to our first e-newsletter. We hope to be able to use this to inform you of events at Elderhaus, keep you up to date with our program, educate you about the latest in care for adults with disabilities, and share the successes of this important service to Northern Colorado.
It has been almost a year since we moved into our new facility at 6813 S. College Avenue in Fort Collins. It has been an incredible and awesome year as we have gotten settled, worked through the startup issues, and started to realize the growth we anticipated with this new facility. If you haven't had the opportunity to see it, please feel free to visit us when you are in the area. We appreciate so much the support of the community in making this a reality and we truly could not have done it without you. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We are trying to extend our reach to more people in Northern Colorado, so if you know of others who might be interested in Elderhaus and Mindset, either as a service for their family or to support our mission and objectives, please share this e-newsletter with them and encourage them to join our mailing list by clicking on the button below. And if you choose not to receive these letters, you can always unsubscribe using the link at the bottom of this newsletter.
We look forward to getting the word out about our program and meeting new people along the way. With that, enjoy reading about some of our current activities.
Sincerely,
Joanne Vande Walle

Our 2017 1950's-themed Senior Prom was a rockin' time!
|
We celebrated our 17th Annual Senior Prom on January 20 at Poudre High School with a '50's Diner theme, catered by MacKenzie Place. Over 100 people thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to gather with our participants, families, staff and board members. Our 2017 King and Queen of Elderhaus and of Mindset were crowned as an honor bestowed upon them by their peers. This event is an ongoing partnership between Elderhaus and Poudre High School and brought all generations together for an evening of fun and family, with music, dancing, food, and great conversations. For more pictures of the event, see our
website.

Did you know....
Elderhaus collaborates with many organizations such as Office on Aging, Center Board for Disabilities, Disabled American Veterans, and Senior Centers. One of our main collaborations involves Colorado State University (CSU). Both Elderhaus and CSU have a strong, longstanding commitment to each other. Elderhaus has contracted with the University to provide volunteer learning opportunities for students in many fields including Occupational Therapy (OT), Human Development and Family Studies, Gerontology, Music Therapy and more. Working closely with the professors and serving as a liaison, the Elderhaus volunteer coordinator helps volunteers define and establish goals, and monitors progress. Elderhaus provides tours and learning opportunities so students can experience the aspects involved with a non-profit or an adult day program. Shared Missions is a formal collaboration with CSU Occupational Therapy providing internships with professional experiences. Elderhaus staff and participants benefit by learning and applying best practices. All participants have an OT assessment completed by our on-staff OT's as part of their individual care plans. Elderhaus utilizes CSU for on-campus activities such as outings to art displays. Elderhaus' professional staff serve as guest speakers at various classes/events and are a part of college career fairs. And each year, CSU volunteers support Elderhaus by helping with grounds maintenance. All of our partnerships help to unite our community and further the cause and needs of adults with disabilities and seniors.

Every month, a local restaurant in Northern Colorado offers to give a portion of the tab back to Elderhaus for those presenting a flyer to their server. In February, Texas Roadhouse on south Timberline is our host. Please click on the image at left to access a printable flyer to bring with you. Enjoy a nice dinner and support Elderhaus at the same time.
