A Leader in Electric Motor Testing

Think Baseline - Part 2

April 29, 2013

Expanding on the baseline tip from April 8th, remember that test location can have a significant impact on the data. A motor only test will have very different phase and ground resistance readings than a test performed from 300 ft away at the starter. A motor only test is often performed in the warehouse, prior to installation, or during troubleshooting. All other trend testing will normally occur at the starter. Therefore, the test data assigned as a baseline for comparison should be the test performed at the starter after the last installation.

You are invited to submit an Electrical Motor Testing Tip of your own and receive a free PdMA mug or hat if we publish it. Contact Lou at lou@pdma.com.
